I would like to have a bulldog but I do not want to buy a dog when there are so many without loving homes. I would like to know if there is an organization in the souteast that rescues and places bulldogs.

I am very aware of the reason rescue organizations exist. I understand that there may be problems with health, behavior, and many other things. I have never felt that I would be breed specific when choosing a dog, I just knew that it would be a rescued dog. I have a new person in my life and we have decided to bring a dog into our home. We have agreed upon a bulldog or bulldog mix I have read about and understand the many issues that may accompany a bulldog. I also know from a previous rescue that there is no better feeling for the rescuer and I believe the rescuee.

If you are interested in adopting a rescued Bulldog, please complete the online adoption application before you contact the local BCA Rescue Network representative. Use the Apply to Adopt link on the BCA Rescue Network home page.

Please keep in mind that rescued Bulldogs are not always happy, healthy or well adjusted. If you are considering adopting a rescue it should be because you are committed to giving a homeless dog a second chance. This means having the time and patience to work with social, emotional and behavioral problems. In some cases, a health issue is present. Many rescued Bulldogs don't get along with other animals and some can't be placed with children. If you're seeking a rescue as a way to obtain a cheap Bulldog, you've come to the wrong place. You must be passionate about the breed to accept what baggage comes along. If you're looking for perfection, buy from a reputable breeder.

GOOD LUCK

Congratulations on considering a rescue dog. I've been in rescue for 20 years and all 7 of our pooches were death row inmates. One of our social, well-trained dogs is a pit bull.

When many shelters have a purebred, they contact a breed rescue to take the dog. Shelters are always full, and moving a purebred into rescue will free up a space for the next mixed-breed that doesn't deserve to die.

Regardless where you live, most rescue groups can transport the dog to you if your application is approved. There are numerous transport volunteers who can move a dog cross-country, at no charge to you, in 2 days.

Please check with DirtyPawsRescue.org
They specialize in bulldogs and have a network of foster homes. All dogs are fully vetted, have lived in a home, and are usually housetrained. Their personalities and habits are well-documented by the foster family. This rescue is in Evansville IN. This is a top-notch group for which I've volunteered for several years.

For other rescues, you can check petfinder.com Choose the breed, and see what is in foster now.

You can also go to www.akc.org click on breeds, then click on breed rescues. There are some breeders who also work breed rescue. Not many, but some. You will be able to find a rescue in your area.

Good luck, and please share your story when you find a new companion!

Petfinder.com is an excellent place to start. You can also type bulldog rescue and your state into any search engine. And finally, visit the American Bulldog Club website and take a look at their rescue links and contact information.

I'm not sure what kind of bulldog you want but try typing in the kind + rescues. They are sometimes able to help you get it to your home if you adopt. Also, keep an eye on Craigslist.com inyour area. Petfinder.com is another source to watch. Good luck in your search and for wanting to adopt a pet that needs a home.

Check Petfinder.com, it will list all the known rescues/shelters in your area, and you can see if there's a Bulldog rescue (or if there's just a plain shelter/rescue that has Bulldogs available).

If you mean English Bulldog, they aren't high on the rescue list. Few of them are bred and they are very expensive, so they tend to be well cared for. However, there are some you can go to like www.rescuebulldogs.org and they can hook you up.

Yes, call your local dog rescue in your area, they will still charge you, but they make sure the dogs are going to good homes and that the home fits the dogs lifestyle for that breed.

Just Google "bulldog rescue (whatever state you're in)". Have you researched bulldogs? They're prone to lots of health issues and can be very, VERY expensive to care for.

Sure, phone the shelter in any large town or city. They can refer you to a breed-specific rescue group.
