I've done it for the past few days, but now I can't do it. I already wasted 2 pills today. There capsules and when I drink it with water my tongue seems to block the pill, but not the water. The water makes the coat of the capsule thinner, so it then comes apart. I'm only 11 and my mom keeps telling me to put it all the way to the back of my throat and then take big gulps of water. Even that I can't do, but I've done it before. I've done it yesterday, the day before, the day before that, and the day before that. I don't know why I can't take it anymore. I've even tried eating a banana then adding the pill. It's one of those capsule pills that can't be crushed. My pill is for gasritis, so I can't take it with yogurt, chocolate, or milk (any lactose). No, I don't have apple sauce. I'm not scared of choking, I'm scared of taking the pill. I know I can do it and I'm thinking positive, but it just won't go down. When it seems to slide down I push it back up. Please help me.

I've Tried:

-Eating something then adding the pill when I'm ready to swallow
-Putting it to the back of my throat then talking a big gulg of water
-Also tried it when talking a small gulp of water

Icecream... cover the entire capsule with a spoonful of icecream and down it will go (definitely use the advice above too!). If that doesn't work, have your mom contact your doctor and ask if you can have it in liquid form (some drugs are available that way).

Here is something I learned about capsules. If they are the ones that are pushed together with the contents inside, they will float. Put it in your mouth and take a sip and tip your head down and it will float to the back of your mouth , swallow. That type have air in them.

At your age I had exactly the same problem. Now I can take 10 to 20 pills at a time. My gag reflux opens my throat and I swallow a big bunch.

Good Luck it just takes time to learn to do it.

If you absolutely cannot swallow pills have an adult crush them and put in like applesause and swirl, there may be a mistaste, but it gets it down and you can't refuse food. Um if ya don't wanna do that you put it in the back of your tongue first. Before ya swallow the water w/ it, make sure the water is around it. It took me a while to ya just gotta keep trying Good Luck!!

Instead of holding your head back and trying to swallow, try holding your head forward. This makes the passage in your esophagus larger. I know it sounds strange but I had the same problem and my doctor told me to try this and it does help.

good luck.
