As far as I know no book has ever written a check or a draft to back-up what it says. Having said that, the Loan value is the dominate number as far as financing and the general value of the car or truck in most but certainly not all vehicles. The bottom line is you are looking at it, does it fit you finances and needs, is it CLEAN-no paintwork or frame or water damage. Mostly do YOU think its an 18,000 dollar vehicle and can you get by with offering less. Negotiate the price til it fits you.

Do not use KBB, it always overvalues cars.

The book value at edmunds.com ( a more accurate website) is between $17,000 and $19,500 depending on options. So that particular car is right on what the book says it should cost.

I'd say it's a fair deal. Not overly priced, but not a steal either. If you like it enough and it passes a mechanic's inspection, I'd say go for it.

Well I looked it up on the Kelly Blue Book prices and suggested retail price would be $21515.00 and a private sale would be for excellent condition would be $18925.00 and good would be $17800.00 and fair would be $16265.00.
So I would deal a little and go for $16900.00

If you got the money for the gas then just looking at the numbers it is not a great buy, but ok.

No used car is a good bargain. Suggestion: I consult with consumer reports for advice, piece of mind, extras, and other tips. You should do the same. By the way, I don't work for them, and I'm not getting pay for advising you. http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/index.htm
