I really need to go to a therapist or a phychiatrist or something. I think I have social anxiety and mild depression ... although one of my closest friends think I may have OCD. I know I am sick and should go get help but I am so scared to. I don't know what kind of help to get and I really hate going places when I don't know what to expect. I also don't want to have to be on medcation and I am afraid of what people will think of me if I am diagnosed with anything. I know I should go but I just can't bring myself to do it!

Please don't feel bad for reaching out for help when you need it, it's the smartest thing you can do! I have worked in mental health for years, and have been on medication and had therapy myself. Just like your body can break down and become ill so can the mind, and you need a specialist to get it working correctly again. I want to address each problem you have.
You need to start with a psychologist. This type of doctor can do testing, can counsel you, and can refer you to whatever type of doctor you may need to address your problems. He can't give prescribe medication, but you may not need it anyway. If you do not know where to start to find one, call your insurance comapany and ask for a referral. Do not feel hesitant about asking for a different doctor if you aren't comfortable with who you start with as the most important part of therapy is the close and comfortable relationship you have with the doctor you choose. You must be completely honest and open with everything so they can really give you the help you deserve.
You can expect to have complete, professional treatment. Your records are completely and totally confidential and absolutely noone but yourself will ever have access to this information. Which also address' your other concern of having people know-you are the only one who can give information, so you can or don't have to tell anyone anything about your visits. It's entirely up to you.
I beg you to call and make the appointment and don't be afraid to tell them you even feel suicidal at times. They will just know you need an appointment as quick as they can get you in. I can tell you from personal experience, that the world can seem completely overwhelming when you are feeling the way you do. But get into therapy, and the sun starts shining again and you will feel confident, happy, productive, and carefree again! No one should ever live in fear or depression of anything. Just get professional help and everything will be wonderful for you. I hope you call tomorrow, I feel so sad for you being in that place, I've been there and it sucks- so please get help now! I wish you all the best!!!

When you have had enough and really want to get help, you will not care what other people think. You will gladly take any meds just so you can be normal again.
Comitting sucide will not help you to live a normal life.
Of course you are scared. Asking for help is very hard. You feel like a failure. But guess what...........everyone needs help and not just once in a while either.
Be brave and call your pcp and ask for a referrel. Your personal care psycian will know what kind of doctor you need.
I wonder what people think of you now?

start by going to a counselor or psychologist. Just go and talk about what is bothering you. They won't necessarily put you meds. Here is what will happen: they will ask you to come in, ask why you are there, and then they will want to know why you think you are sick, what symptoms you have, how you think you can fix it. It is scary, but if you can make it thru the first visit, the rest will be easier. Please go, it will help you. Don't worry about what others will think. We all need counseling at one time or another. Email me if you want to talk about this more.

Go talk to your family Doctor if nothing else. That's who got me to the people I needed when I was in your shoes. No one has to know you are on meds or diagnosed with anything unless you tell them. Anyway, that is the least of your worries- you need to LIVE your life- please see your doctor. Best wishes! :)
