"For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart." - Hebrews 4:12.

The message in God’s written Word is “sharper than any two-edged sword.” Thus, it has such tremendous penetrating power that it exceeds any human instrument or tool. The Word of God pierces the innermost parts of a person and can change him inwardly, affecting how he thinks and what he loves, making him an acceptable, godly worker. What a powerful tool!
The Word of God exposes what a person really is at his core as compared with what he thinks he is or what he allows others to see. (1 Samuel 16:7) Even a wicked person can sometimes shroud his inner self with a covering of benevolence or piety. Evil ones put up false fronts for wicked reasons. Proud people masquerade with mock humility while yearning to hear the applause of men. By laying bare what is really in the heart, however, God’s Word can powerfully move a humble individual to strip off the old personality and “put on the new personality which was created according to God’s will in true righteousness and loyalty.”

Christ is the living WORD. Twe-edged, meaning it cuts both ways. It will either drive you into the WORD are a way from the WORD.

Mal 4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:

Mal 4:6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

And that's what real truth will do, either turn you to GOD or the other father satan.

Jhn 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Are you drawn to the real truth? All the rest have the Spirit of Stupor Rom 11.

I think that this is similar to what was said by the Prophet Simeon to the Virgin Mother of Jesus+ that a sword would pierce her heart so that the thoughts of many would be revealed. Many people blaspheme and contradict the great predeliction of Mary as Mother of God and as Virgin, Immaculately Conceived. When the Holy Spirit uttered the Truths concerning her it became apparent from responses whether men's hearts will be moved to comprehend the great glory of the Plan of God in the Church. The thoughts and intentions of these hearts can be perfected by acquiring the Truth regarding her Divine Motherhood or be moved away from the Lord, with some kind of unholy jealousy or inconvenient Truth.

It shows that people have a good or bad heart condition, that they are righteous or ignorant.

For example, most in Christendom do not know the difference between God the Son and Son of God.....we believe the latter, not the former.

They also don't know there are many versions of the Christian trinity and they all think the others are hellfire bound cults.

God's word is written in such away that it reveals what is in you heart.

If you want to believe the trinity, you find scriptures that hint at this teaching. (John 17:3)

If you want to believe the soul is immortal you can find scriptures that hint at this teaching (Ez 18:4; 1 Tim 6:16)

If you want to believe in Hell fire you can find scriptures that hint at this teaching (Eccl 9:5,10; John 3:16,28)

If you want to believe once saved always saved, you can find scriptures that hint at this teachings (Heb 6:4-8; 10:39)

By teaching doctrines of men and ignoring the whole truth,
God's Word reveals what your heart wants.

To worship God, his way or your own.

Living and active implies that there is continuing revelation, and the canon is not closed. This living word is powerful enough to give commandments for both our actions and our thoughts.

The word "Word" in this passage is Logos in Greek.

Logos means creative word. In my tradition, this is an aspect of God. It is the male side of the Christos...

So, this indwelling spirit of God is what helps us to judge ourselves and keep us on our path.

It means that we will be judged by the Word and there will be no fancy footwook on our part to dodge it. God knows up inside and out. He knows our desires and intentions, not only our actions.

Bible faith brings forth fruit, actions on our part. If our "belief" makes no difference in our life it is not Bible faith, the word was not mixed with faith to produce a change in our life.

Hebrews chapter 1.

1Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.

2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

3For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

7Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

8For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.

9There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

10For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

-------------------------------------------
11Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

Here he is saying don't harden your heart towards God. Keep on obeying God so you don't fall into "unbelief", ie not responding to God's attempt to work in your life. As in "To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts."
---------------------------------
12For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

13Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
-----------------------------------

Oh no, what shall we do? None of us are perfect. Well, we are told to come boldy to recieve grace to help us and forgiveness when we fall. If we sincerely keep on repenting God will keep on forgiving. Hey, Jesus has been in our shoes as a human being. He knows that the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. He understands our infirmities (weaknesses.)

14Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

15For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

16Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

So we are given a warning against disobeying the voice of God that is speaking to us today (and the Bible is alive, speaking to us now, as well as the still small voice of God) and departing from God but a promise of grace to help us in time of troubles.
