I ask this because of the male dominance in MOST religions. While I do look up to Jesus and respect those who respect Mohammed, Buddha, etc...I'd like to know some of the more important female counterparts. Because they certainly deserve some respect too.

In the Hebrew scripture, Deborah the prophetess and judge of Israel; Abigail the wise; Ruth and Esther. In the New Testament: Phoebe the deaconess, Mary and Martha of Bethany; Priscilla the teacher. Those are just a few.
Thanks for asking! :)

All of the above are well-known and respected Pagan or Wiccan authors.
Wren of www.witchvox.com for all that she has done over the years.
Penelope from the Odyssey, for being industrious and intelligent.
Hypatia the librarian, for her intelligence and for keeping all that knowledge as safe as she could.
Helen of Troy was certainly influential.
All the women who took the role of Pythia at the Oracle of Apollo in Delphi were incredibly influential and earned lots of respect throughout the ancient world as well as now.
Many other priestesses were given respect in their due as well. Unfortunately we don't know about many of them now.
There are a number of important and influential women I respect in my local community as well.

I have respect for all the women in the Bible. Mary, the mother of Jesus, was an important woman mentioned. She was a good woman, who God found favor in to carry his son, Jesus Christ. She had to bare the grief of knowing that her son, Jesus, was hung on the cross for our sins. All of this was done, and still people mock his name. How sad for those people.

I abhor organized religion, it is man's made up and perverse take on a beautiful thing.. Spirituality. For me my Spirituality is what gives me my personal freedom as a woman. Freedom from a system of world wide patriarchal domination and hypocricy that has been a problem since the dawn of time. It to me is an abomination what is acceptable by these religions. I am a survivor of incest and rape, and it has scarred me and marred me in ways that I can not begin to explain here. However, that any human being would want to mandate rape as a man's right is inconceivable, inhumane, and completley ludacris. A woman who would support this must have been brainwashed by their clearly misguided patriarchal dominated religious state. My heart breaks for each soul damaged by rape, female or male. I would NEVER live in a country which so flagrantly disreguarded the rights of an entire race of people *women*, and so erronously gives a man to treat her with such cold disregard. Our soldiers to me are there fighting a fight that does not belong to them alone. This clearly belongs to the whole of humanity to fight against such heinous crimes against our own sisters. Though they are not of my country, they are my sisters and I feel for them even if they don't feel for themselves. Rape happens everyday around the world, but to make it legal to rape a woman.. I don't have the words to describe how it makes my heart feel. We are not dealing with sane people, this is a clearly warped society of religious zealots, which these people clearly are... They advocate murder so that they can get to heaven and be sexed by 99 virgins *only the men mind you*, and approve of rape of women while they are living. Seems to me all the men in Afghanistan and in most arab nations care about is their own sexual gratification in life and in death, no matter who they have to harm to get it.

Esther. She has her own book in the bible. Ruth, Mary Magdalene, Mary - Jesus mother, there are many, many women of the bible.
Jesus held women up, respected them and ministered to them.

I just studied about a lady named Lydia in the sixteenth chapter of the biblical book of Acts. She was likely a strict Jewess who recognized the truth of Paul's teaching regarding the identity and mission of the Jewish Messiah. Her humble response and future ministry make her an interesting character to know in the early Christian church.
As far as a female counterpart for Jesus though...you will not find one due to His being the Son of God. It's not like there's a Daughter of God in the same sense.

Mary Magdalene was a great teacher. She even taught the apostles. The early popes were afraid of women so they pretended that She was a prostitute.

All of those Christian answers and not even ONE mention of Mother Teresa. I am not even a Christian and she is one of my most revered women of religion.
There is a lot to be said for all of those other women mentioned, but NONE of them can claim the attainment of M T.
