My dog just was just nutered yesterday and his nails were freshly cut by them. But I've heard that everyone (humans included) have their nails cut before receiving anesthesia.

We don't cut people's nails before anesthesia. We request that people do not have fake nails or nail polish so that the pulse oximeter works correctly, and so that we can check nail bed color and capillary refill.

Trust me, we have way too much to do to worry about your manicure.

As far as I know, they don't. However, if you're wearing nail polish or fake nails (is that what you're thinking of?), they take that off because they look at the colour of your nail bed to determine whether you're getting enough oxygen. (Normal colour ranges from reddish to pink to tan ,depending on your skin tone, but, depending on certain conditions, they can turn white, blue, or a variety of other colours. Doctors can determine a lot just from looking at your nails.) However, the thing with your dog doesn't surprise me; they probably just wanted to make sure he didn't scratch his stitches.

I've never had my nails cut before anesthesia. Dogs get it done were they are neutered so they dont scratch themselves when they start to heal.

We do not cut your nails. However, if there is nail polish on them we will remove it. We need to see the color of your nailbeds to be sure of your blood oxygen level.
