As few as it takes to complete the job that most of the troops over there want to finish. Want them to feel like too many Vietnam veterans-55,000 dead for nothing? I think the causalities will keep declining and Iraq will get it together. The surge for all the crying about it has proven to have worked. I previously posted a month by month list of causalities for this year and from July on it shows a steady downward trend and I think that will continue, it may shoot up one month but overall down. The answer is as few as possible to complete the task and leave Iraq capable of standing on its own and able to protect itself from internal and external enemies.

There have been 3,168 military killed in action from U.S. forces in Iraq and 722 have died from non-combat causes.
You are counting the seven DOD civilians who died from combat causes and the one who died from non-combat causes.
I apologize for the inability of certain U.S. media outlets who can't operate a calculator or know the difference between combat and non-combat, and can't distinguish between uniformed personnel and civilians.

Hopefully fewer over the next few years, but as many as it takes until Iraq is stable and has a government which can run its own country.
We de-stablized Iraq (for better or for worse...) and it's our repsonsibility to re-stabilize it before we pull our tent stakes and leave.

And thats not even counting the civilian contractors, truck drivers, and security personnel. The real number is up over 10,000 if you factor them in.

that is only the deaths that were caused by "enemy fire"... alot of deaths they call "training accidents" are by enemy fire and they dont add those into the numbers. So take that and double it....
