No I do not believe she was a prophet.

I attended a SDA high school. I learned quite a bit about EG White, some of which I have forgotten...but the things that stick out in my mind were:

She was walking home from school and a classmate threw a rock at her. It hit her in the head and she was knocked unconscious. She heard a growling noise either before the rock was thrown, or just after she came too (I can't remember) and after that she started having these visions.

Also, her writings were so poor in grammar, spelling and continuity, that the elders of the church had to re-write them in order to make them available to the followers.

Her husbands beliefs come through her writings. It's almost as if he wrote them.

To my way of thinking, anyone can say they had a vision. Without the scrutiny of an authority they are just someone saying what they think or want to think. I"m not saying she didn' t have visions...she may have. But we have no way of knowing they were from God.

I guess the counter question is What do you believe are the marks of a prophet?

Sociologically, she functioned as a prophet, just as Joseph Smith and several others. Why choose her?

If by a prophet you mean one who does not contradict the Bible: EGW was not as daring as some in adding to the Bible stories that are alien to it. So it is somewhat tough to catch her in glaring contradiction.

One place where she is clearly wrong (in her book Patriarchs and Prophets if my memory serves) is in interpreting the "sons of God", the "bene elohim" as the sons of Seth (in Genesis 6).
