Al Qaeda has taken credit for the murder. And a gunman/ suicide bomber would be well within their means, as well as being a typical modus operandi.

The militant Islamists that support the terror groups in the NW along the Afghanistan border. Bhutto had promised to go into that region and vigorously weed out and fight terror groups and change the region. This is a very dangerous hour for Pakistan and in turn the US. If Islamic fundamentalists take power in a coup or in another fashion, the stockpiles of fusible material could be compromised. Pakistan has a very large amount of material, which by itself, could be used to make many "dirty bombs". If they get their hands on that, you can be sure they will attempt to detonate devices in London, Paris, Madrid, Rome, ect. They would eventually get to the US. not long after that. Watch carefully the ensuing reaction within the nation. A military coup is possible, or a factional military coup, that propels the fundamentalists into power. Now is the time that Mussarif should be supported and he had better watch his back.

Most likely an Islamic extremist group though they could have been helped by factions in the Pakistani police. I do not think the US would be involved because she is actually more pro American then the current government so would be counter-productive. I do not think te current Pakistani government would have been directly involved because it has little to gain and would be the prime suspect by many people, the military doesn't care really and Musaffi would lose the Presidency but probably will any way and believe a deal had already been made to protect him if that happened. The Islamic extremist hated her because she had cracked down on them before, has more popular backing then the current government or them, was very pro-American, had already tried to kill her once and because she had already said she was going to drive them out of the Northern Tribal Area and Pakistan if she got elected. They had nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Al Queda

"We terminated the most precious American asset which vowed to defeat (the) mujahadeen," Mustafa Abu Al-Yazid told Adnkronos International in a phone call from an unknown location.

Al-Yazid is the main al-Qaida commander in Afghanistan. The decision to assassinate Bhutto is believed to have been made by al-Qaida's No. 2 leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, according to the news agency.

The Pakistani government has said it was a terrorist attack and Al-Quadi has claimed responsibility but I don't buy it. Al-Quadi will take credit for any activity that took anyones/anythings life. I think that the Pakistani government either did it themselves or paid Al- Quadi to do it.

I wonder if we will ever know for sure who was behind it. What an awful loss for the world. I truly and deeply admired her and have for decades.
