You're right- politics ISN'T Godly, but the republican party certainly panders to the religious right for power and votes. Not to say the dems don't do it, but the Religious Right has always had more republicans in its fold than democrats. What is has to do with politics is power. Pander to your base and you'll win their support with empty words while your actions are completely opposite. Its a con game- like there's such a thing has a holy politician. Ha!

It's a false construct, actually, pushed by neoconservative media. I have been told to my face that no Christian could ever be a Democrat.
It's not so, but that's how the Red State Mentality lays it out for us.
My brother is a far-right, selfish Republican atheist.
My mother and sisters are liberal Christians and vote Democrat.
Oddly, over the centuries the two parties have taken each other's positions. The Republicans were true conservatives who fiercely protected separation of religion and government, while in the deep south, every Democrat was expected to be a religious fundamentalist. I have seen this shift in my lifetime.
William Jennings Bryan was a Democrat, and he was the prosecutor in the famous Scopes Monkey Trial.

I think that people are mistaken by labeling everyone on these issues. I personally am a Christian and I try to vote for whom I believe to be more closely in line with my beliefs. I don't vote all one way or the other. I may lean toward democrat if I don't know anything about the candidates because they tend to be more about the working class and less about the rich. I always make sure I know about the candidates for the presidential elections at least. Next time I vote, I intend to know a lot more about the candidates. It will only be my second time being able to vote in a presidential election year.

Jesus himself stayed out of politics, but he did say that you should stand up for your beliefs. I think most real christians are conservative, because conservative ideals are closer to christian ideals than liberal ones are. And, since most Republicans are conservative, well, there you go. Most christians biggest opposition is to abortion, and the Democrats usually promote abortion rights. Conservatives also believe in free enterprize, personal responsibility and the rule of law. That all follows what the Bible says. Of course, there are a lot of liberals that believe their beliefs are closer to the Bible. I don't think this is something you will ever be able to resolve. I think the main difference between liberals and conservatives is what they believe about human nature. Liberals believe people are naturally good, so they want to rehabilitate criminals, give poor people money, and make rich people pay for everyone's health care. Conservatives feel that people are basically bad (original sin), so they prefer to punish criminals, teach poor people how to work to feed themselves, and let rich people keep more money so they can provide jobs for less rich folks.
Anyway, that's just my opinion. Hope it helps you.

Because in a republic religious principles have greater weight than in a democracy. In a democracy 51% of the people oppress 49% of the people, but in a republic the majority rules while the minority has rights as well.

I know, I wonder about it too. While I guess Republicans seem to more often than not be very much Christian...most Democrats and Liberals seem to be very much religious too, though not necessarily in the holier then thou kind of way. I mean, atheists would hardly even be accepted among them, so who else do they think they are talking about?

If you keep up with politics you know that all the democrats running for office are pro choice, no true born again Christian is for that. Most republicans running for office are pro life, that is in line with the Bibles teaching that all human life is sacred. The Bible says in Jeremiah chapter 1, that God knew you before you were formed in the womb, so if God knows you before you were formed in the womb then abortion is wrong, bad wrong. I hope that helps you.
