the $100 price is the highest I can afford right now... However the ones I'm seeing are over $300

I only buy knives that I'll use, not something just for display, if I were going for a display I'd go the cheapest possible

Because terrible ones are really cheap.
You get what you pay for.
Good Steel, Good Secondary Materials, Good sheath
This is not Cheap

Case used to have a fair sized bowie listed reasonable- mine at the time was about $30.00, was a good camp knife for meat chopping and firewood trimming. Current Scrade is smaller, still usefull, no longer made though- about same price- was bought used. German Zwillingwerk was in store about $70.00- was told it was restyled heavy professional chefs/butcher knife, same steel as Chefs knife and lamb Cleaver available in cutler dept. Do you want to use Bowie knife as display piece or work knife?

Because a Bowie Knife is a highly impractical
'show piece` and most makers won't take the
trouble to make them out of decent steels, or
to temper the steel properly.
BTW. If you're only paying ~ $100, you're
probably getting a pretty piece of cr*p.

I've seen bowie knives for sale on Ebay for as little as 20 bucks but they probally will rust, and are made in Taiwan. You get what you pay for but unless your from Australia and plan on hunting gaters or bear then what would you want one for. Sorry I'm practical. I got 2 hunting knives for skinning my game. My wife prefers to use them over her kitchen knives just cause i keep them sharp and the blade doesn't bend. But any ways my new Buck with a 6 inch blade just cost me 35 bucks.

do your self a want, take a 10 dollar bill and burn it. affordable knives do not carry a solid sharp side, could have themes with handles breaking or falling off, and so on. do not waste your money.

You get what you pay for. If you want good steel and good craftsmanship it costs more.
