If so, would it be appropriate to tell them to "grow up"?

Yes and yes.

At the very core of the Christian belief there is a shift of personal responsibility to a Saviour. In this sense their growth has been stunted. True freedom is feared.

It is unnatural from its inception.

Try pointing this out, however, and you'll be met with childish behavior, often nonsensical gibberish or parroting of Bible quotations while being told you are arrogant and insulting.

I needn't point out how arrogant or insulting assumptions made on behalf of Christians are to the rest of those who don't share that belief, whether they are theists, atheists or simply uncertain.

"Freedom makes a huge requirement of every human being. With freedom comes responsibility. For the person who is unwilling to grow up, the person who does not want to carry his own weight, this is a frightening prospect."
--Eleanor Roosevelt

There are things in the Bible about being as innocent as a child, and metaphors concerning being a child to God, who is the Father.

But telling any adult to grow up just has to be considered an insult. Not that it isn't sometimes justified, but it IS an insult!

Luk 18:17 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.

You have to throw out all the "traditions of Men", and believe GOD's WORD as a little child, inocent.

You read the same thing in the needle gate. You have to unload all the traditions of men to fit threw the gate. In other words, Unload you camel.

When it comes right down to it, the only reason why you choose not to believe is that you know if you did, you would have to change your life style in some way.
You don’t like the idea of handing over your life to someone else whose going to tell you what you can and can not do.
Bottom line is you want to run your life as you see fit.
Well fine, go ahead and be your own boss; sooner or later you’re going to get sick and tired of constantly getting yourself into one mess after another. When you’ve finally had enough of yourself, Jesus will be there to help you pick up the pieces of your broken shattered life and give you the joyful, peaceful life you could have had all along.

It is one thing to have childlike faith, and it is quite another to be childish. The two are not necessarily linked.
