I took kung fu a couple years ago at a studio in Columbia MD. It was fun, educational, I enjoyed myself however they increased the cost and that along with the long commute ended that. Fast forward to now. I've started watching Human Weapon which opened my eyes to how many DIFFERENT styles there were and now I'm interested in relearning martial arts but not necessarily Kung Fu. I like Sambo and Savate but I'm open to any type of defensive martial arts. What's a good (affordable) school in the DC area?

Name of schools, locations and/or phone numbers would be great. Some sort of starting point.

I know you said you were looking for different styles, but there are a plethora of very good traditional Chinese martial arts schools in DC including: Wongs Chinese Boxing (www.wongpeople.com); and Hung Tao Choy Mei (www.jowga.org).

I also live in DC, but commute a few times a week to my school in Columbia, MD which has a VERY good monthly rate and is a VERY good school. If you feel like the commute isn't too much for a great school and a great price ($70/month and no contract) check out our site at www.jowtigers.com.

There are quite a bit of schools in the DC area itself as well from other styles, but in my quest to find something I could do in the city 1 or 2 times a week to avoid the commute so many times a week to Columbia I found a lot of them require a contract (ugh) and were expensive. There is quite a Krav Maga group in DC (www.kravmagadc.com) but they too were expensive with a contract.
