how to fix a firewire connection dropping frames when importing video from my video camera ?

I have a firewire port on my pc which i connect my video camera to in order to import video directly from the camera. In the import it drops a number of frames along the way - how do i set it up so that no frames are dropped ?

when doing a video capture, it takes most of the computer resources. to avoid dropped frames, turn off all other programs and processes. at a minimum, disconnect from the internet. coordinate with your virus scanner so it does not operate during the capture.
