he has been dragging his rear end on the carpet, using his front legs to pull him along. What could be wrong with him???

His anal glands may be full and hopefully they are not infected. I would take him to the vet and some groomers will do this for you too and have them check his anal glands and express them for you. If they do get infected and rupture, that is a much bigger problem!!!

I have a Maltese cross Jack Russell and he did this and I was watching thinking 'ooh how cute!' However now that I have done some research, this rubbing is called scooting and it's nothing to be overly concerned about but I would bring him to the vet to get his anal glands checked out, they might be full and needs squeezing! I watched it get done and couldn't smell a thing!

I would also trim the fur around his bottom and observe his stools, are they runny or normal. This information would be useful for a vet!

Sorry, this won't be pretty.......sounds like his anal glands need to be expressed. If you are up to it, tonight, put some warm water on a washcloth and hold it on his hiney, That might make him feel better til you can get him to the vet tomor.
