Do you know that God's grace and forgiveness takes it off of you like it never happened? This is the great Gift that Christ bought for humanity through His death and resurrection.

Yes, its also good to balance things with the person you may have wronged if that is the situation that weighs heavy on you. But their forgiveness cannot remove the act from you...you still have to deal with the wheels of justice

Amanda, there are some things in life where human forgiveness does not release the guilt one feels over some situations. No one said not to seek the forgiveness of someone you may have injured.

Yes, of cousre every now nd then I think about the past, but I feel sooo much better now that I'm forgiven by God and that I have repented.

Forgiveness means nothing if you aren't forgiven by the people you've done wrong. I don't do things that I will need to be forgiven for because I don't have an imaginary friend that'll make me feel better about having done them wrong.

If I beat up Joe for no good reason and then ask Steve to forgive me and he does...what does that do for me or Joe?

Response to details:

That's why I said that I don't do things that I will need to be forgiven for. I can never truly feel forgiven if I have wronged someone, even if that person forgives me.

As for the wheels of justice - It is not just to forgive people for the most heinous of crimes and send to eternal torment a person for a simple thought crime. A thought crime in which the person really has no choice in the matter. Some people, like myself, can't believe Christianity to be true any more than you can trick your brain into believing me if I told you that I was typing this from the inside of a live whale at the bottom of the ocean.

To send anyone to infinite torment for finite crimes is unjust. Very unjust, considering that all-knowing god would have to had known that billions and billions of good people would go to eternal torment before he even put the tree in the garden...sorry about the little rant there....forgive me :)

There's a LOT of mistakes I've made in my life, but I know its a learning process and experience. I always ask God for forgiveness, I have my own personal relationship with God and I have no need for an intermediary. The key is to talk to God like He is your best friend (which he is).

Christ did not die for our sins. He lived by example and shown light and truth and how to LEAD. Let us not focus on his death and resurrection but his accomplishments and kindness.

No, I needed forgiveness it would be from the person that I wronged, not from an imaginary deity. Out side of that, why in the world would I feel guilty for something that didn't harm a physical person?

shouldn't you be asking the person who you wronged for forgiveness instead of god? kind of seems like a cheap cop out. nice that you never have to come face to face with the person you harmed, you can just lay it all on the shoulders of the invisible man in the sky.

Is this a question or are you preaching?
Whatever you have done wrong, the greatest act of humility and courage is to forgive yourself.

I believe God will take it off of my shoulders if I promised to somehow make up for it...

and according to my religion, I gotta make it up for the person I hurt.
