Please read bothwebsites I linked you for some additional excellent info. Puppy food. Females should not be eating more than 2-4 cups of food a day, depending on your specific females metabolism and weight. She should be eating recommended large breed puppy formula during her pregnancy. She should be excersized regularly with lighter walks towards the end of the pregnancy. With staying fit and well streched, and eating a within normal her delivery should be easier. It is recommended that she have a room to herself where she can start spending time in at least two weeks prior to the birthing day. Shredded newspaper or a light sheet is recommended. Heavier blankets may smother. Have oxytocin on hand when delivering puppies and keep a weigh scale and different colored rickrack ribbon to identfy the puppies! :) Have fun!

Well, since she's gestating puppies, wouldn't puppy food be the best idea?

If dogs are like humans, she may not be able to eat a lot at one time due to nausea. Spring for the good stuff, served in small portions during the day.

Try buying dog food with extra immune system benefits to prevent the mother from getting sick and passing it onto the puppies. Go to your vet and talk about a good diet for your pregnant dog. Congrats!

A good quality puppy food. You must feed her puppy food because it contains more fat and nutrients so the puppies will develop well in the womb.
Try Canidae (they sell it at Pet Supplies Plus, many other pet stores, and online).

If you don't know what to feed the dog while she is pregnant then you are not ready to be breeding her.

I fed my dog

- Quality kibble
- Puppy canned food
- Steamed rice
- Plain yogurt
- Cooked unseasoned meat
(what ever meat I was having that night for supper)

I also switched her feedings to three times a day instead of two.

I won't try to give you advice on what to feed your dog, I will only tell you to contact a vet and ask them advice. Without meaning any disrespect to any of the other posters, I wouldn't want you to take some bad advice over this website and end up harming or mal-nourishing your dog.

She needs to be on some good dog food... Like Nutro brand.... it is a little more expensive but trust me it is AWESOME food. Petco sells it.... I am not sure what formula you would need as my dogs are all seniors but I am sure someone can help you at the pet store...and she definatly will need a little more food than normal.... good luck..
