I wasn't officially ex-communicated by the Catholic Church. The Church wasn't even aware that I ex-communicated myself. You know, like "you can't fire me, because I quit!"
I'm glad to know that you're keeping that document to remind you now and then of the religious insanity that you were once part of. My bad memories of Catholic indoctrination are enough to remind me.

I fought to get removed from the Mormon Church as well. Framing the document...now that is a great idea...I wonder if I still have mine!
What did it for me was when I found out about all the "deeper" teachings they don't tell you about, or flat out deny when you first convert. God being an exalted man, for instance, and you being able to become a god.

I was asked to leave a church one time, cause I did not believe the same as them. Other woman drove me out of a church one time because I did not want to wear my hair long and did not see a problem with women wearing pants and being involved in sports. Another church said I served the wrong Jesus. The fourth church I had to resigned from the church board because I showed the preacher some scripture that he did not want to believe and said that the devil gave me these scriptures to throw me into unbelief..

A college friend was.
She and her boyfriend were part of the catholic church.
Someone found out they were fooling around before marriage.
At Sunday service, the pastor told both to stand up and then excommunicated them. She said it was so embarrassing as it was done in front of family and the congregation. Last I heard, she no longer goes to church.

Not myself, my mother was excommunicated from the Church though for many years. She was never happy about it, and one of the happiest days of her life was when she was again able to receive the Sacraments of the Church.

I haven't been excommunicated from anything, but I do know someone who was. It's a horrible thing for him, but he refuses to do anything about it.
EDIT: To FedUpWithReligion: You were told that you worship the wrong Jesus?? What does that even mean? How many are there to chose from, for crying out loud? What church told you that?

I wasn't officially excommunicated, but the experience was much the same. The pastor was very much against anybody who has had any connection to being gay. It was made very clear that we were not welcome and not wanted, so I left the church. It was either that, or go through a demonic deliverance service, at the pastor's insistence.

I was asked to resign once from a church.. It was a non pentecostal church and I had received the baptism in the Holy Spirit and they asked me to resign my membership. It was not a happy parting as I loved them very much as Christian Brothers. But these things happen..
