I also believe your last name is an European name, Dutch, German, maybe. In Swedish the last name "Swahn" is used but it´s not so common as someone said before. I´t s very possible that your last name has changed through the years.

The Swedish noun "svan" means "swan" (the bird swan) in English.
(I also believe the word for swan is quite similar in German too, if it´s that in Dutch, I´m sorry to say, I don´t know, but it could be, as Dutch also is an Anglosaxon language as German and Swedish.)

Do you know of any ancestors, who have moved to your country from another country, if so, you would find your solution to your question, for instance by going through church books or asking older members of your family, if you have any! Just a suggestion, hope I could help in any way.

A Happy New Year to you!

It is a Swedish last name. Swan is a pretty popular first name in Sweden, BTW. So, your family name comes from that I guess.

It could be English or German, with the spelling changed, but I'd be willing to bet that poster who said Swedish was on the money.
