No. His benefits end midnight of the day of his discharge. That is a fact. If he were RETIRED (after 20+ years of service), then yes, he would be covered. But if he was just discharged, than no, he has no coverage. Go through his Insurance company.

well, hopefully the car he was driving or riding in has insurance. But if he a military discharge, his military insurance will expire but I am not sure of the exact date. It might be the date he is discharged, or maybe its a month or a few months. I thought tri-care was for dependants and not the military personel?

Possibly, depending on the terms of his discharge he could have up to 6months of care eligibility. This should be in his paperwork.

HOWEVER because he wasn't wearing a seatbelt they could refuse to cover him even if it's in his discharge paperwork. Whoever has his poa will need to call Tricare and find out for sure.

I don't think so, normally it is just for retired military members. Your best bet is to call the VA 800 827-1000, but I have to warn you, if you are not the member they will not give you specifics, just answer general questions.

They will need to know what type of discharge and his social security number to help you with anything specific.

Hope he feels better soon!

No. He was discharged. His eligibility for Tri-Care and care at military treatment facilities ended at one minute after midnight of the day he was discharged.

Im not sure if his general discharge is covered by Tri-Care; but not wearing a seatbelt certainly wont win him any points

I don't know but if not he has to sue his car insurance company for the medical bills... it could be quite the process

I don't believe they will, especially as he was not wearing a seat belt. May God stay with him and help him heal though.
