Don't block the holes on the top, those air the vents. It'll run fine, though. Leave it on all night just to prove it to yourself. It'll never burn out...
For the record, my 360 spits A LOT more heat than my PS3 and it WILL burn out if I run it too long.

It's normal for the PS3 to operate pretty warm, but it shouldn't be very hot. If it gets too hot, make sure that the PS3 is in an open area so that it can get plenty of air flow.

I used to have mine in an enclosed section of my TV stand, and it got very hot. Once I started opening up the glass door though, it stayed at a normal temperature. Just make sure it gets air.

mine got like that before I traded it in. It seemed like a normal thing...I could feel the heat radiate about half a foot off the machine. I think it may be because it's such a huge monstrousity. lol. But seriously, it's normal I think.

never leave UR PS3 IN A crammed section in particular through fact my friends caught hearth and additionally warm airs will bounce off the wall the place the fan is opposite on circulate lower back in ur gadget and with regard to the noise i could call sony :D
