My computer will not allow XP to be installed because it is an earlier version. But does anyone know how to wipe out Vista so I can install XP Pro?

There are many sites which help users downgrade from Vista to XP. However, eventually, we are all not going to have a choice of using Vista or not, as Microsoft is phasing out the older OSs. Already, XP is the only one receiving regular support. Here, I will try to find a website or two which discusses changing from Vista to XP:

Here is my search results page so you can look at other websites advice. It might take some sifting, but it is worth the effort if you are serious about downgrading.
One additional piece of advice: when you are installing the OS, you will need to have drivers for your SATA drives at the ready on a thumb drive. At a certain point you are given the option to manually add drivers, click the proper keys, and plug the thumb drive into the USB port. If you don't do this, the installation will fail, because it must have those SATA drivers at the very least in order for your drives to be seen and used. If the physical drives are not recognized as installed, the OS has nowhere to be installed, and so will fail.
That is the only tricky part of the installation, and the major reason so many people put up with preinstalled OSs these days. However, once you do it you will see just how easy it truly is, and you don't have to put up with all the "freeware" and "trialware" put onto prebuilt systems these days, especially security software which is so difficult to fully remove.
Good luck and look at it as an adventure! Once you do one, you will probably never go back to a preinstalled OS.

put the xp cd in and turn the computer on. When it comes to where it lists the partitions wipe them all out and recreate a new one using the max. size.

reformat the hard drive then put in the disk for XP Pro. It will go from there.
