The mother - she's the one who had the tea! She's the adult - she should know better than to leave hot tea around where a toddler could get to it.

I think the girl ought to have been able to trust her mother to watch the baby while she ran to the loo. It's not much of ask! The mother should have known better than to leave tea where the baby could get to it. Can you imagine what the mother would have said if her daughter told her to be careful of the hot tea? My daughter was screaming in the back seat of the car the other week and my mother turned around to her. Then got most upset and cried because I spoke sharply to her, telling her to turn around. I was driving at 100km a hour and there was nowhere to pull over! She also got upset when I pointed out that she ought to have known better. Mother's don't like being told that, especially by their kids.

Honestly I would say the grandma if the sister told her she was going to the bathroom. And the grandma should have known better than to leave hot anything within reach of a baby. As a mother myself I know we tend to get very mad when our babies get hurt. But with more experience you learn that accidents happen, neither one of you intentionally left the baby by hot tea. Next time just take her in the bathroom with you, that is what I did with my kids when they were very young and there was no one else around to watch them, even though in your case there was someone.

It was an accident, noone is to blame. Its horrible and true the mother to both sisters should have taken care to keep the hot tea away from the baby, but accidents do happen. I hope the baby heals ok. good luck.

Well, the girl was left in charge, so she should have been keeping an eye on what was going on. However, I think everyone would assume that the girls mother would be responsible enought o make sure the tea was out of baby's reach.

I dont think it is unreasonable for the sister to go to the bathroom right quick while mom watches the kid and expect everything to be ok... mom should have kept the tea out of babys reach.simple as that. if the mom of the child wants to blame someone it should be her mother. but i hope she worried about getting baby patched up and healing before she worried about blame.

Although the child was left in the care of the girl, I would say that the girl was just trusting her mom's experience and didn't intend for anything to go wrong. I would say that it was irresponsible to keep the hot tea within the reach of a child. Since we can't expect kids to know better than to touch hot stuff, it is our responsibility to protect them.

The mom/Grandma was to blame. She regularly takes care of the baby, and has raised at least 2 children herself. She should have had enough common sense not to let a hot beverage anywhere near the baby. Shame on her!
