As we learn more of the quantum level of matter and below, we'll actually lift that veil so many speak of. Heaven is right here - at hand. When you realize the illusionary effect of our world, it 'll make more sense. Remember everything you see is composed of bunchs of active flowing atoms. There's many many different perceptions of this world, with the view totally dependent on the lens of the observer.
Some can see it already. Most cannot. When we reach that point, probably this century, you will see your answer to your question.

our time is not Gods
a thousand years is but a day, written in the bible
and in Jewish tradition, the husband did go away after the wedding, and prepare a place for his bride, in this instance Jesus has gone away, and will be back for his bride the church of believers, thus he is preparing our places, our mansions also written in the bible
when He was walking the earth, the kingdom being him, was at hand, and now that we are waiting his return, and the prophesies all being fulfilled, it is at hand spiritually
And we know that He lives, thus the resurrection
And we know that He is the God of Abraham, Isaac, etc, He also says He is the God of the living, not the dead, so we know that the patriarchs of Isreal are living in spirit with him.
So you know that there is a heaven, thus the thief on the cross was told..Today You will be with me in Paradise..and Jesus has yet to break a promise.
No parable, as it is written in the bible also, God is not the author of confusion, its the enemy that has the twists and turns..kinda like the gps system on your pc, when you ask for directions, its not always going to give you the easiest path, and you dont always know what is under construction.
Heaven is a state of being, and as you know we have 3 heavens above earth.
When you say give me a second, or be back in a few, sometimes you really mean an hour, or a few hours.
You think its slow when your pc is downloading, and by microwave time its faster, and by oven time even slower
The bible often uses jewish custom and ways of living to illustrate.
Thus the mustard seed, being the smallest in the land, is why He used our faith, ....if only you had the faith as that of a mustard seed.
Bless your reading

The kingdom of heaven is a phrase only found in Matthew, where (in the NIV) it appears 33 times. It is the rule of God and is both a present reality and a future hope. The idea of God's kingdom is central to Jesus' teaching and is mentioned at least 50 times in Matthew alone. To say the kingdom of heaven is at hand indicates that the future hope will become a present reality when accepted. Instead of trying to put a time limit on it, accept Christ as your savior and then it will become a present reality. Until that step is taken, it will only give a future hope.
Now Luke 17:21 uses the phrase "kingdom of God". All of the translations that I searched through said "kingdom of God" not "kingdom of heaven" and it is indicating that the kingdom is spiritual and internal rather than physical and external, meaning that the kingdom is present in the person of its king, Jesus.

Well it is closer than it was 2000 years ago. It is likely around the corner. The bible describes 7 periods of time. We have lmost gone through 6 of them (6000 years) So likely in the not too distant future the Millenium will come. I cannot wait. We will have no more sickness, nor more pain. We will live for 1000 years with Christ our king. The murderers, adulters, liers, and all bad people will be removed from earth. This is not the final judgement, that will happen 1000 years later. But we will be living in a state like Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden. no crime, great neighbors, open your doors and not lock your cars if that is the method of transportation. We will build houses and inhabit them. We will plant and eat. one will not build and another inhabit. One will not plant and another eat. We will have no prisons, no jails. Only those who will work will be there, no slackers. We will spend our time studying, learning, and doing other work. It will be a beautiful place, but there are none of us that are perfect, so we must learn to correct our faults. A thousand years later, many of us will be exalted and live with God where he lives in Kolob. I cant wait

IMO, there will be many many more years of waiting {Like Forever} because it is NEVER going to happen!
I have no proof that heaven does not exist, so again, this is just my opinion. If I am wrong, I guess I will have to pay dearly for the consequences of my "Wrongness".
I have just never been able to believe or buy into the afterlife in any capacity. When you die you die; No more & no less.
Obviously, MANY many people buy into and wholeheartedly believe in the afterlife and heaven? In the bible, Jesus stated the time was near and coming, yet 2000 + years later nothing has happened?

Religious people have been predicting the second coming is just around the corner for 2,000 years.
I remember hearing, in the 60's, the end of the world would happen in the 70's, then the 80's, then the 90's and people went nuts when it turned 2,000.
Not a whimper.
Heaven: we'll find that out when we reach the other side. Till then, my salvation is the Golden Rule and non other. The rest is supposition and smoke and mirrors.

Jesus was referring to the onset of the new dispensation - salvation through grace alone, and the rapture, and then the return of Jesus to rule the earth along with the people (the meek) previously raptured. By the way, if the earth is a megazillion years old, then 2000 years is nothing.

I think you guys that are stating Luke mentions the kingdom of heaven, might be mistaken. The Bible I have states the Kingdom of God, and that is different than the kingdom of heaven.
I think somewhere else in the Bible it says, "a thousand years to you is like a day to me." So time is irrelevant to God.

The kingdom of heaven is ALWAYS at hand. It may have been 2000 years since Jesus walked on the earth, but it will only be 20-60 more years at most for YOU (if you are allowed to live even 20 more years). Therefore, as far as you personally are concerned, the kingdom of heaven is immediately at hand.
What are you going to do about it??
BECAUSE, By the deeds of the law there shall no person be justified in God’s sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin and all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:20, 23
THEN, They all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 2 Thessalonians 2:12 Also I say unto you, whosoever shall confess me (Jesus) before men, him shall the Son of man (Jesus) also confess before the angels of God: But he that denies me before men shall be denied before the angels of God. Luke 12:8-9
HOWEVER, The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9
FOR, Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me. John 14:6
THEREFORE, If you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved. Romans 10:9
THEN, He that overcomes, the same shall be clothed in white robes; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. Revelation 3:5
SO, That whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:15
