i recently posted a question about my son climbing out of his crib. he was diagnosed with a developmental delay , he is not walking. so when he is climbing out he is going head first. this is why i believe he is not ready for a toddler bed. but if he is ready i am willing to try. so any suggestions from anyone who has the same problem or had it would be great.

My daughter also has some developmentl delays and she is now in a toddler bed. We got her a dora bed that has rails that are longer then what most are and she loves it. We got it from toys r us. If you want to talk I can help you out. DONT put him in a reg twin size bed. My peds told us no to that since she can fall out and its higher. The toddler bed is lower and he should just do fine with it. :):)

You have two choices: a crib tent or mattress on the floor. IMHO I always say if they are climbing out, crib tent for under age 1 and mattress on floor for over age 1. But many feel that kids should stay in a crib until age 2 (and with a developmental delay his adjusted age is lower), and I respect that.

Do a search on "Crib Tent" and you will see that it is basically a mesh tent top that is secured to the top of a crib, and it has a zipper opening. It's designed to keep cats/pets out and kids in. A little pricey, but if you really want him to stay in the crib, that's the only way you can.

The other option, if you don't want to go straight to a toddler or twin bed, is mattress on the floor. You put the crib mattress straight on the floor. If he falls or crawls out, it's a very small drop. As he gets older, you can raise it up on a boxspring or something similar, and then even later to a real bed. The only thing is then he wanders around at night, but that's another (albeit normal) toddler issue.

Good luck!

If your two year old is crawling out of his crib, then he is ready for a toddler bed even if he is delayed in his development. This is when kids start to climb out of there cribs, you can get a toddler bed that has a bar on it but not as high as the crib that will help if he rolls out of the bed, but will help if he climbs out. If he is ready for this do not hold him back, this is a good thing. It shows that his brain is developing and he wants to learn new things. I have three children and they are five years apart in age and all of them started climbing out of there cribs when they were two years old. Good luck on your boy.

My daughter started climbing out of her crib when she was 9 months old! I swear this is true! My kids were all early walkers and late talkers, it's just their thing. We became concerned for her safety so we bought a small and low toddler bed and converted her over. We also put a gate at the top of our stairs (we all sleep upstairs) in case she started walking around at night.

If he's going to climb out head first, he's better off in a bed so the drop isn't so far. You can either get a toddler bed, or twin mattress and boxspring, which could go right on the floor. He's climbing, there isn't a way to stop it. Just keep things you don't want him getting out of his reach.

I'm assuming that ypu put the crib mattress in the lowest position & he's still getting out? Your little one is ready for a youth bed or a twin bed. You may want to buy the mesh side rail (s) that will keep him from falling out of bed during the night. Maybe if you buy juvenile bedding, he'll be more apt to sleep in it. (Spider Man, etc.) I out my first son in a youth bed at age two, so I wouldn't have to worry about him falling out of the crib & getting hurt. Good luck!!!

My daughter crawled out of her crib at 2, so I moved her to a bed, and she loves it. I went straight to a twin bed and put a rail on the side. It's been great.

My lil girl was a little over 1 when she started tryin to do that, and we got a toddler bed. She does great with it, and it's low to the ground so if she happens to roll out she usually doesn't even wake up. you can get side rails that help keep them from rollin out too, the bed we got has little wooden rails made on it. the thing is, he'll be able to get out and wander around and if you're not watching him, he'll be able to get a mess going quick. Trust me, we had to get the saftey latches for door handles after she flooded our bathroom/hallway floor. Kids do the darndest things, huh?

my son did that at 16 months though he was walking for a while before he started climbing out... the 2nd time he climbed out ..i moved him to a toddler bed..its much easier..and although he does fall of his bed when he is sleeping..he the height of the fall is not as high..and also..i've put big beanbags..and big teddybears around his bed..so when he falls he lands on that and doesnt even realise.

would put him in a toddler bed, the crawling out will continue, i would have him be safe, especially if crawling out headfirst! they have the ones that are low to the ground. just keep up with safety! good luck
