Many atheists have a sense of morals and ethics. There is still a right and wrong, and they do not have to be told what to do because a book written thousands of years ago tells them so. With that, there are atheists that do lie just like those who say they are Christians (Ted Haggard, George W. Bush, Jim Baker, Jerry Falwell, and Mike Huckabee).

I cannot answer this question for I am not an atheist but I can tell you that it is simple human nature to lie for all we try not to but you can lie without knowing you are it is just as simple as not knowing what is true and what is false we call this assuming or creating your own conclusions the thing is then when someone figures out the truth through the correct process of getting all the details collecting all of the information they will come back and call the person who jumped to their own conclusions a liar.

There is little need for an Atheist to lie. If it is more helpful to lie then that I would do.
Lying is not all that bad. Whole societies Religions and Governments are built with many lies

I am an atheist. I live a very normal life, I love my family, I don't take things that don't belong to me and I try not to lie. It is pretty easy to tell the truth and have a normal, healthy, happy life without having some divine being to blame your screw ups on or to give credit to when you do something right. I and only I take responsibility for my actions.

I can't speak as an atheist, because I'm a Christian. That being said, a couple of my friends classify themselves as atheists. They're both good, decent people (one seems a bit more respectful than the other, in general), and I think they try to behave with consideration toward others.
Given that disposition toward others' quality of life, then I'd say that at least *some* atheists try not to deceive out of respect for others -- and perhaps out of their own sense of self-respect.

That is an interesting question.. I am keen to say - Yes.. It is not the fact that a person is an atheists I believe that makes a person lie or not.. It is their moral reasoning I would be more inclined to say..

I'm a pragmatist, as well as an atheist. Lying can be very useful in getting things done, but I don't lie about big things to people I care about.

I very rarely lie and never about serious stuff. Not because I'm afraid of breaking a commandment but because I know I would trip myself up further down the line and it's not worth the effort and worry.

I'm sure some atheists try not to lie, but it depends not on the religion or lack thereof, but on the person.

You don't TRY not to lie - you either do lie or you don't lie.
Some atheists lie and some don't.
Is it wrong to lie? Who said so?
