A cadet is in school, the police academy. (S)he is not a sworn police officer. A trainee is sworn but under a training officer, who is teaching the reality of being an officer.

relies upon on the dep., police interior the U. S. are no longer all the comparable. as an occasion in Chicago a Cadet is a school pupil who works area time for the dep.. they have different uniforms and help with paper artwork and answering the common public's questions and stuff like that. In Chicago trainees are referred to as recruits. In Houston trainees are referred to as Cadets. (a minimum of that's what the Houston Chronicle newspaper calls them).

The Cadet is a student at the police acadamy. After graduation, you are a trainee, paired with an experienced officer to help you make snap decisions in emergency situations until it is second nature. Both are sworn and badged, but the trainee has to develop a sense of judgement;which only comes with experience.I work next door to the Atlanta,GA acadamy. Many people forget that the police play for "Keeps",you could be killed by an out of control suspect.Or jailed for murder if not in self defense.

It depends on the area of the country. Sometimes a cadet is a college student doing part time work at the department to get his feet wet in the profession.
A trainee is just that. An officer in training. Where I have been a trainee is an officer that is already sworn and in FTO training. He/she is an officer, only still in training before being let loose on their own.
I have seen states that don't swear their officers in until they graduate the academy, and I have seen officers sworn in before the start the academy.

I think the cadets use the trainees to practice their tasering on, so that they're really good at it by the time they're unleashed on the general population.
