(NB: Yes, I know getting every atheist to agree on anything other than the one tenet of atheism is like herding cats while getting a family of seventeen to agree on pizza toppings. That said, is this a reasonable generalization?)

The problem that we have with religion is similar to the problem we have with astrology, homeopathy, Holocaust denial, magick, Head On (apply directly to the forehead), and psychics: It's magical thinking used by charlatans to fleece the credulous.

I don't necessarily completely agree. I think people can and do find alternative ways of dealing with disease or pain, that isn't the typical medical remedy of pills and I don't think all homeopathic practitioners are a quack anymore than I think all doctors are trustworthy. I've never tried Head On, although I've thought about it. For the rest, I'm in agreement.

You are correct, the only thing I'm against is the total brainwashing of children so they can be heartbroken later in life when they realize that their family has lied to them & wasted their time all their lives! Sadder than finding out Santa isn't real.
*seriously painful*

I think it's fair to say that a fool and his money are soon parted...

But I wouldn't go so far as to call it a 'problem', - as I feel that everyone, from genius to dolt, should be free to do whatever they want to do with their belongings.

Well. That is probably my main problem with religion. Or at least one of them.

I only have a problem with any thinking when it is false. Most religious thinking is false.

Magic is strictly forbidden in Christianity, so it's strange that it would be rejected by Atheists.
