My aunt and her son live with my grandparents (her parents) and when every they come over or we go over there, or even a 10 minute conversation over the phone, my grandma and aunt CONSTANTLY go on and on about how broke and poor they are. But they eat out every day and buy flat screen tvs, new appliances, brand new game systems...you get the point... Everyone who knows my grandma and aunt is tired of hearing them nag about their finances.
So how can I get them to stop talking about how they have no money, but with tact?

Reply with " I know what you mean, just . . ." and tell them your sob story about how hard cash flow is with you and your family. Every time you do this when they start their drama they will eventually get the hint and stop. If they don't, exaggerate how money is getting tighter and tighter and that you'll end up on the streets pretty soon.

You could say, yeah, those appliances and tv's are really really expensive, in a sad tone of voice. And those game systems too... But they may not get the hint.

Ugh. Nobody likes a poor-mouther.

This is hard to do. Instead of saying something directly when they bring up their money woes, try changing the subject.
