If it is close to the owner, then it feels like it's mother is leaving it. I mean you feed it, walk it, care for it, clean it, everything. Plus it gets really lonely.

Thats why most vets have "camp" or just babysitting for when owners leave for awhile.

for my section i do no longer think of they mourn in an identical way that human beings do, yet whilst the owner and canines had a good bond, then i'm specific that the canines could pass over the owner and not understand why s/he develop into no longer around.

Face it--dogs are people too and depending on how you treat the animal may determine how they react. For the most part they tend to react in a negative manner. You have disrupted their daily routine plus --if they love you and you show them affection. They're going to miss this and miss you. The longer you're gone the harder it is for fido to come around and may be a bit stand offish for a period when you come back. But--not tho worry, when you come back show them a little extra TLC and they'll come around. not to worry. I guarantee you--you'll miss them as much as they miss you. But--you have the guilty conscience, not them.

Dogs can definitely grieve for their 'lost' owners. When I went away to college, my dog didn't eat for three days.

well..if this gives you an indication...i've had my dog since he was 8 hours old (his mother rejected him). i lived with him his whole life until he was 9 yrs old, and then i moved out into my own place, but couldn't take him with me (too big for my apartment), so he stayed with my mom. after i left, he spent the first month sleeping under my cousins bed (and no, thats not his usual sleeping spot...his usual spot was on my bed with me).

Sadly sometimes they will. They can become depressed and lonely.

Of course they do! Why do you think they're so happy when you get home?
