You may want to make sure you are allowed to do that. If you are then I'd say rip out the big wooden thing it builds (the dam) then wait til it comes out to rebuild it. That is about the only way you will be able to hunt it. Maybe you should try a trap that is made for beavers, like a connibear or a stronger cage trap.

PS. I really don't like it when people trash beavers, they are a keystone species, which basically means they are more important to an entire ecosystem than most other species. Not to say that some animals aren't important, just some are more so.

Next time use a snare. Beaver are notorious for busting traps or knawing their feet off.

Can't knaw yer head off. Try this site to see how it is done.
You can either google the "Ohio Snaring Guide" or take a peek at this site.

Good luck either way!

they are mainly nocturnal animals, so your best bet is trapping in accordance with your state regs......shooting at beavers on a pond is asking for trouble with a glancing shot off the water, who knows where the bullet will end....go to your local fish and game club and put a 3 by 5 card up with your info, that you would let one person to place traps on your pond, I'm sure someone would want the pelt....

set snares on the beaver slides. a good snare won't be broken and they are effective and low maintenance. you could also set them up by the beaver lodge. best of luck

.22 or larger to the head from a canoe. You used the wrong trap, you're suposed to use the kind that drowns them udnerwater.

you hunt beaver with a very large....trap.
seriously, beaver are a fur bearing animal and fall under hunting rules and regulations. you need to check with fish and game or pick up regs for your area.

You IDIOT!!! You trap them not hunt them. Buy a five gallon bucket trap. Nothing can get out of those!

Carpet bombing.....???? oops, its a double-entendre, twice removed.

But seriously, since all the fun stuff like grenade-launchers, flamethrowers, bazookas, etc are illegal, wait him out with a 10ga. or 12ga. then BOOM. Friend of mine had trouble with a whole rabid colony on her property upstate, we laid siege to the dam with 10ga. slugs, picked off the fat turds with some impressive long-range work with an old sears bolt-action 12.ga, one of the giant rats charged her Alsatian, well a face-full of #1 buckshot literally spun it around in its tracks, stone dead.

Nasty, good-for-nothing, tree-murdering giant buck-toothed river-rats, as far as I'm concerned. Its not like they're cute little hamsters, they're bloody VARMINTS, kill 'em all - especially the ones wearing fan-belts & turbines on their head.

Careful. Most places they are protected.
It seems that the powers that be would rather see
you flooded out than lose one of the little suckers.
