OK - she got fired - it's good that the center took action - BUT , why are the cameras not being monitored more often? I'm not saying that they should watch them every second of the day, but how long was this going on?
I don't know what state you are in or what requirements your state has, but, in PA, I would report them to the county. Our daycare licenses and check-ups are handled by the county.
I would certainly escalate to whatever level is next up to ensure that the center is really what you think it is. I find it a little hard to believe that when she pulled the kids ears, not one of the kids screamed or cried out loud enough for someone to hear and check up on them. My kids daycare center is divided to age classrooms, but only by half walls, so, if someone did something like that, someone would certainly hear it.
Good luck with it - but don't let it go just yet - I know how you feel - you really like the daycare, but now may not completely trust it - for your sons safety, make sure they get inspected by the appropriate agency.

What more do you want? She got fired. If she had no criminal background, there was no way they could have known what she would do. I'm sure the director isn't psychic. They took the appropriate action. If you don't like it, you can find another center or be a stay at home Mom-but I really don't know what else you could possibly want from the center.
EDIT: The center SHOULD have called the local Dept. of Children and Families/Health Department. They are mandated reporters of abuse-or at least it is that way in my state. I would give the state a call tomorrow and let them know about the woman. The center will be investigated, and the woman, videos, etc. They may press charges, and she will not be able to work in childcare anymore. Just make sure the center reported her, she doesn't need to be around children anymore. In CT, I know they have 72 hours to report it before getting into trouble. Call and ask-if they haven't, tell them if they don't you will.

I actually am a director of a child care centre in charge of 8 staff. But firstly i am a mum to two little boys who attend another centre and i can smpathize with you.
Firstly regardless i would find your son a new centre on the basis that in some countries (ie i am in australia) it is agianst the law to film the children on camera as it is a brech of confidentuality not to mention the people who have access to the film, have they had the appropriate clearnece from children's services and the police (in australia any persons dealing with children have to have a police check) Is it accessible on the WEB? This alarms me because you dont know who is looking at your child.
Secondly for the staff member to be fired so quickly there has to be something more to this story. There has to be a process for the staff memeber to go through before they are fired so perhaps there was more than pinching an ear. (Yes i do agree that this is seriuosly worng but what else has happened)
Dont feel responsible and dont feel like you have to worry what has happened to the staff memeber. Ask for a copy of the first aid and incident report and contact to the centres child proctective agencie and report this.

I would file a police report. I mean, suing isn't going to get you any where. But make sure its filed at the police station. You need to be sure she has a hard time getting a job at another daycare. It is NOT just a bruise as some have said, thats your child and he deserves to be respected at daycare. You don't pay people to watch him and abuse him, because that is abuse. File the police report and call the county/state, whoever the daycare has their license through and let them know, also. The daycare will be checked out...this will also make it harder for that abuser to get another job with kids, which is what needs to be done. And no, as one person said, don't quite your job to be a stay at home mom...thats a little dramatic. If its possible, find another daycare, cause after you call the licensing people you may have a rough time with the one your at now. I wish you lots of luck, but don't just let this go.
I hope your little guy isn't hurt in any other way. :( Poor little man.

I think that they did the right thing firing her, but there should be more done than just that. If that were my son I would have raised hell with the daycare and tracked that lady down and took her to court. That is wrong and she should have never been a daycare provider/assistant. You should take further action no matter what! No person should ever lay a hand on a child especially someone you put your trust and money into!!! File a report and take your son out of the daycare immediately. They should have seen the signs before it came to this. Don't take him back. Do what you think is right..for me would be justice and knowing that it will not happen to others!

You need to seek the advice of a solicitor/lawyer. Find out if the day care centre have actually notified the relevant authorities about this woman and her abuse to children. It should be ensured that she never works with children again. If in UK i'd report it to Police also. These things are far too often brushed under the carpet. Yes they did the right thing by firing her, but what follow up have they done. Have they informed the other parents of her actions on the other children? I'm sure if they all knew what had been happening they'd all take the appropriate action. All the best and i hope this hasn't mentally scarred your son.

firs ask how it happend.. did she hit him? did she try to catch him from a fall?? my sisiters and brothers get banged up all the time in daycare just because they are kids... they always have a report sent home with them tho.. did they give you a report for your son
if you find that it was not an accident that your son got injured then ask the manager if there was anything on her background check that would have implied shed cause harm to a child. if the manager says she over looked anything or didnt do a background check then id find a new daycare asap. if she had a totally clean background check then i dont think you need to find a new daycare because ther would have been no way to know.. also it wouldnt hurt to find out if any other children where hurt by her.

nothing - they took care of the situation - that is a good daycare. They were honest. When they found out about it - they did something about it!!! If you get a new daycare - just know that some daycares - would hide the problem ... they did not.. they faced it - and got rid of the problem.
If you sue.. that is going alittle bit overboard. Why do you want the hassle of suing, and you won't get much of anything from me - trust me..youd pay more in legal fees then anything.
So, I would of course document is - and, keep the daycare, because they were honest... and did not hide the problem!

Hello,
You take pictures of the bruise. Write out everything that happened that you saw or heard.
Getting your child checked out may not be a bad idea either!
Turn this "lady" into the children's protective services.
If you think this is the first time for this "lady" you maybe wrong. She may have hurt other children.
Paper trail is how these people are caught. Start this paper trail if one is not already started on this "lady". This is your child.
If it was a accident, let the cps hear it from her.
Wish you well!

You should investigate further with the daycare. If she did it when with witnesses around, turn her in to the district attorney. They can press assault charges.
You should also contact the state child welfare department and have them investigate the daycare. It is important to have a record of these things, even if they did fire her.
You won't get any money by suing, and nothing but heartache trying to contact her directly.
Consider moving your son to a new daycare. If they are hiring people who would hit a kid, they are not screening right and are not good judges of character.
