I dont get what my PS3 is saying about the controller?

Whenever I play a game and my controller is wireless, at the upper right hand corner of the screen it says connect controller. My controller works fine when i dont connect it so why is my PS3 saying to connect the controller?

two player game

press the PlayStation symbol on your second controller and a friend can play with you

if your playing a 2 player game, then its telling you to connect another controller for the sencond player

You probably need to charge it agian, or do what those two people are sayin'.
