My sister is 18m/o and does not sit still to have her diaper changed. It will sometimes take two of us to do it. One person to hold her still and the other to change her diaper. She will not lay down to have it changed and will run away. I have tried giving her a toy to play with, being firm, being totally relaxed, everything. About half the time she will allow my mom to change her diaper but otherwise it's the same thing. Any advice?
Oh and she is not ready to use the potty yet. :)

I'm just saying she not ready to use the toilet because my mom thinks so and she hasn't started potty training her.
Just asking for advice because I am her main babysitter and it's tough sometimes.
Thanks for the advice guys! :D

18 months is old enough to start using the potty, especially if she fights everytime it is time for a change.

sounds like my son! :D I let him pick the toy he wants to hold during the diaper change. If he acts up I tell him that I will take away his toy if he doesn't settle down. He understands this perfectly, and if he won't behave I take the toy away until he is ready to calm down. It's still a hassle, but at 33 inches tall, and 29lbs he is way to big for me to handle without his cooperation. The bright side is.....potty training is just around the corner!

This is one for the child care experts. It's just a phase that she'll eventually outgrow, but I can certainly sympathize, as this is very annoying to you. She's really too young for the reward system to work, and not too young to assert her independence. But you might try giving her a treat every time she does let your mom change her without a battle, and no treat when she makes a big fuss. Eventually, she might get the idea. Good luck!

Either start potty training, or swat her thigh and tell her to lay still. Quit the battles.
What makes you think she's not ready to use the potty?

If she's fighting to get her diaper changed, it's potty training time!

My son is the same way, be quick, make funny faces, sing and give special toys, only for changing.

It's just a phase all babies go through, I had to hold my son down by putting my leg on his chest or just like you have someone hold his arms down to the ground. You'll just have to bare with it until she gets older.
