My brother is not in the wedding party. So,what should he be wearing to a formal wedding? Will a tuxedo be to much? My dad wanted to rent one for him at after hours where all the other guys are getting theres. Is there a way to may a tuxedo look a little more casual? So he doesnt look like hes part of the wedding party?

To purple nurple, how does that make me a bridezilla? I was just asking a general question. This is the first wedding my family has attended. My brother doesn't own anything formal.

It should either wear a suit and tie or a tux that is a different style than the wedding party. There are a lot of tux styles out there.

Normally only the wedding party and the fathers wear the tuxes, have you thought about just a nice black suit (every man should have at least 1 suit so it would be a good investment for him that he could wear again) He could wear a tie in the colors of the wedding party or a plain black tie and he would look formal enough for pictures, but not so formal that he looks like he belongs in the wedding. This would be my suggestion.

Well, you have not included him in the 'wedding party' so to be honest, he gets to wear what he likes (unless he comes in a football strip...well, actually, he could do if he wanted to!). You have not given him a responsibility or included him in the photographs (apart from the big one at the end that any old Tom, Dick or Harry can be in) so he gets to wear what the hell he likes. Will you be telling the other guests what to wear? No. You are not a Bridezilla are you? Only the 'chosen few' are under your power. You should only have the power over the special ones who are grooms men or bridesmaids, and as he is not special in your wedding... let him wear what he pleases. Maybe your Dad was just being really sweet so he wouldn't feel left out or embarassed.

Hope you have a great day and a lovely honeymoon.

A dark suit sounds good to me. In fact, there are lots of weddings now where the groomsmen wear suits instead of a tux and the attendants wear different but complimentary dresses. The idea of everyone wearing formal and identical clothing is relatively new.

Your brother could wear the dark suit with a white or light blue shirt. If he wants to loosen or remove the tie later, he will look more casual if that is his goal.

A tuxedo altered to look "more casual" would look really stupid and tacky and you don't want that.

If he's not in the wedding party, he really only needed a good dress suit, but if your dad already rented the tuxedo, rather than offend your dad, as him to please go ahead and wear the tux.

You COULD ask him to seat people at the church, or wherever the wedding is to be held, so the tux looks appropriate.

I don't think there is a way to make a tuxedo look like anything but a tuxedo. If you lost the vest it would just look like a suit. You could have him wear a suit and tie combo. I think tuxes should be left for the bridal party.

well one he's ur bro so it really wouldnt matter if someone got him confused with the wedding party. But i say a suit if it's a formal wedding. U can have him not wear a tie and that would dress down the suit some. good luck and congrats.

im well experienced in playing "dress up". He cant go to a wedding too casual or it would be innapropriate. Perhaps finding a different color tux than black would suit him fine. Ive got a silver one that doesnt stand out too much and would be perfect for that occasion. Or try a nice looking suit.

He can wear a tux but in a different style from the wedding party, so that he won't look like he's trying to compete with the wedding party!

Yes...you can make the tux look a little more casual in a couple different ways. If the groomsmen and your father are wearing a vest and bow tie with their tux, have your brother wear just the shirt and jacket with a regular neck tie. If they are wearing tails, just order him one with no tails and a tie only.
