Recent research suggests that the tendency to develop fat over various parts of the body is genetically determined. While specific exercise will help tone the muscles under that area of fat, it will not reduce the fat per se. Obviously, this flies in the face of all the magazine articles you see at the supermarket check-out counters, and contradicts all the infomercials advertising various mechanisms to reduce fat locally.

To reduce your derriere, you must lose weight.

Losing weight in gereral may make it smaller, and any type of firming exercise it may help too, but you cannot spot reduce to make it smaller. The areas of our bodies that are larger or smaller in proportion to the rest is really determined by genetics and there is not much you can do about it.
