trying to find a friend who used to live across the street from me-every web site I have found requires a membership fee of some sort.They say its public records but why do we have to pay then.

Have you tried to just put their name into the search- or try this http://zabasearch.com that should do it if they have a listed # etc

See a patent attorney. I got ripped off $6,600.00 years ago by these 'So Called' invention development companies. If they were really legit, they would SHARE the risk in the expenses of the development process, funded by investors and venture capitalists OR pay ALL the expenses if they had faith your invention had potential. I would not trust ANY of them.
