I think I understand what you are saying.

It is against the Federal law in the US to open mail addressed to someone else. You can report that to the post office.

It is obviously against the law to cash a check written to someone else without their permission. Report it to the bank where it was cashed, the police and the SSI social worker.

Please make sure before getting involved with this claim that you are being told the truth BECAUSE to the best of my knowledge on this subject as of Jan 1, 2006 ALL SSI checks are deposited electronically so it sounds like YOU are being fibbed to.

Good luck sweetie.

If this person is missing his SSI checks he needs to notify Social Security. If he suspects the person at the address is cashing his checks he needs to make other arrangements for his checks, immediately and contact the police. Maybe he could have the checks sent directly to his bank.

It is a violation of federal law to tamper with the mail and to open letters that are not addressed to you or your minor children.

It is forgery to cash a check sent to another person.

There are very few laws against lying.

You report violations of the law to the police. Do not call 911 as this is not a life threatening issue, call the detectives instead.

There is no law against opening another person's mail...only against destroying it. Cashing another person's SSI checks (or any checks) w/o their signed consent is definately a felony. It's called "identity theft" and, unfortunately, is a popular crime. Call the cops!

You can have the mail sent to General Delivery. He would pick it up at the post office.

Call the post master general and see what needs to be done about this. The person opening the mail is breaking the law.

There are strict laws against this. Go to your post office and report this as a crime and have postal inspectors check it out. Postal Inspectors are sworn officers of the federal government.
