You didn't mention what you were already putting in your sauce, but here are some nice additions:
1. 1/2 cup chopped fresh basil
2. 1 T brown sugar
3. 1/4-1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
4. 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
5. 1/2 cup good olive oil
6. 1/2 cup good sundried tomatos
7. 2 lbs hot spicy turkey sausage, casings removed
8. 1/2-1 cup good red wine
9. Minced carrot, celery,
10. Crimini mushrooms

I always start my spaghetti with a little olive oil in a pan. Add about 3 cloves of chopped garlic, black pepper, oregano, touch of red pepper flakes (if you like spicy) and 1/2 of a white onion chopped into small pieces. I saute that until the onion is cooked really good ( I don't like crunchy onions). I don't know if you are using meat or not, but I usually add to the pan: my ground meat and 1-2 links of Italian sausage out of the casing and a good dash of salt. Cook until meat is done, then drain off the grease. If you are using jarred sauce, put it in after the meat is done and then add 1/2 cup of grated or shredded parmesan and romano cheese. The cheese makes it really yummy! Hope you enjoy!
Oops, I almost forgot the bell pepper. I always chop up 1 whole red bell pepper and cook it with my onion and garlic. Enjoy!

Add 2 tablespoons red wine to reduce the acidity - then add a few or all of the following:
1/4 cup chopped green olives
2 tablespoons grilled or sauteed garlic (or onion)
1/4 cup grilled or sauteed zucchini, mushrooms, carrots
2 tablespoons sun-dried tomato puree
2 tablespoons capers
or you can try adding a little dried basil (1 T), some paprika, or any spice you like - have fun!

Do you make your sauce from scratch or use a supermarket sauce? Does your family favor one brand over another, or do you just stock up on whatever is on sale?
We have one or two favorite brands at this house for mom's really busy days ... if I have yesterday's leftover steamed vegs (carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, even green beans), I just stir them into the sauce. If I have fresh zucchini and/or summer squash in the house, I slice them thinly and add them to the sauce as it simmers. Ditto with fresh mushrooms, bell peppers (green, red, yellow, orange); if nothing else pops out of the fridge, I shred one or two carrots into the pot.
Best way to make the best spaghetti varies from house to house. I would bet that by 8:00 pm EST you have 27 recipes for spaghetti sauce, each insisting on NO SUBSTITUTIONS for this ingredient or that herb.
Whether I use a jar or make the sauce from scratch, my only requirement is "thou shalt not use that abomination known as "Italian seasoning." Fresh basil is one of my must-haves; I grow and dry my own rosemary; and although I forgot to plant it last year, I really do prefer my own oregano to bottled stuff.

EXCITING SPAGHETTI DINNER
1 sm. pkg. spaghetti
1 1/2 lb. ground beef
1 lb. Italian sausage (hot)
1 (8 oz.) can tomato paste
32 oz. Ragu spaghetti sauce with mushrooms
1 (16 oz.) can tomato sauce
1 sm. onion, chopped
1 sm. bell pepper, chopped
1 clove garlic, chopped
Italian season to taste
1 sm. can mushrooms
Brown ground beef and Italian sausage and drain the grease. Add tomato sauce and tomato paste. Saute onions, peppers and garlic and mushrooms. Add all ingredients together and simmer from 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Serve with Garlic bread and Salad.

how about pasta with broccoli and garlic.. Use cooked or frozen broccoli and cook pasta separately. In a large pan sautee garlic in olive oil with some Italian spice and I like to use parsley and crushed red pepper. After garlic is cooked add the cooked or frozen broccoli cook together for a little then add the cooked pasta. mix. serve with Parmesan cheese

I love Prego sauce!
I just brown the meat and add sliced onion and fresh or canned mushrooms, then the sauce.
my husband hates it if I make it any other way!!
you can add a can of chopped tomato to for some more fresh veggie taste

Try using 1 lb. Italian sausage (hot) instead of ground beef add onion and mushrooms. and try angel hair pasta instead of spaghetti noodles.
