If You Were an Advisor in My War Room ....?

Question

If I were President, and you were an advisor in my war room, and I asked you what the likely world-wide response is to a nuclear device being set off in Israel by an Islamic Extremist group, what would you tell me the likely International response would be?
For example, Israel then blows up Iran, who in turn blows up ......
Many believe that WW3 (if we're not already in it) will be started this way. So what is the likely worldwide military response, etc. to such an event?

90% of the world wide response will be verbal posturing and empty words.

Israel will retaliate against the nation that the nuclear material is traced back to. (Nuclear material can be traced back to its point of roigin.)

Everybody else (including the US) will stay out of it until it is over then provide humatarian aid.

Once a clearly-defined target was known, then retaliation would be prompt, and terrible. Iran would have to claim credit FOR the attack, or some splinter faction headquartered there would have to. Israel would have no trouble destroying Iran's major cities and would not stop her military actions until Iran was a glass-lined oil-pool. The only nation that even MIGHT attempt to get nuclearly-involved immediately against Israel would be N. Korea, due to their political leadership's instability. At that point several nations, including the U.S. would dump on N. Korea. Pakistan doesn't have any great number of warheads, nor a lot of accurate, long-range delivery vehicles, and Pakistan would hold THOSE to keep India from turning on Pakistan. India has no reason to get involved with Israel, and would be on-guard against Pakistan. Unless the U.S. took direct nuclear action against Iran, Russia would hold it's nuclear forces. Even China regards Korea as a bit of a loose cannon, and would probably hold it's hand unless we took nuclear action against Korea, (They ARE next-door neighbors) meaning we could respond with conventional weapons only. Great Britian would of course place it's forces on full alert and open diplomatic channels to the major players, and to the parties involved. France would wave its finger, and scold and threaten the U.S. if we took action against Iran, but the French are the French, and that will likely be the extent of it from them. Iran would focus all it's attentions on Israel, not turn on outside parties, since they'd be in a fight for their lives against Israel. NON-nuclear war would ensue in the region, so we'd have to get directly involved or see Israel cease to exist. How it goes from there is subject to too many permutations to give a clear prediction, nor do I have the psych. packages on the leaders of the nations peripherally involved. I don't have the N.I.E.'s on the nations either.

I would tell you to put our forces on a higher state of alert, as other nations would be doing the same. Further I would call every world leader tell them to restrain from doing something stupid. That said I would tell you Israel will respond they have to.

Israel would retaliate, as is their right. I would advise you to get on the phone with other world leaders to stand fast, as the skirmish will die out on its own.
