Congratulations on becoming a christian. It sounds like you have one more step to go though. Just becoming a christian and going to church is fine, but to be "accepted" into heaven, you must accept Jesus as your personal saviour. So what do I have to do, give more money, go to church everyday play with little kittens? No, it will be the easiest thing you have ever done. Get down on your knees, ask Jesus to forgive your sins, accept you as a sinner and be your personal saviour. Most churches have a time at the end of the service for people to come up and be saved. Most preachers will do it in private with you also, if you aren't comfortable with the group thing. You can also do it alone in the privacy of your own home, car, cubicle, where ever you feel th emost comfortable. That is the easy part though. After you accept Jesus, you have to try and live by His "rules". There was only 1 perfect person ever, and He died for us, so don't worry about your doubts and insecurities, He knows all about them. Feel free to email me, I would gladly help you into the fold.

Just because you have doubts about your faith, or are interested in researching other faiths, doesn't mean that God is going to be insulted and not "want you back". Far from it.
I personally don't believe that God wants blind followers who just say they believe because it is what they grew up with... I don't believe that that kind of 'faith' is truly knowing God. I grew up in a Christian home, turned away from my faith as a teenager, and then re-established my belief in God after some soul searching and what the atheists on this board will scoff at when I call it a true sign from God.
Everyone walks a different path in life, but in investigating your doubt you will come back to your faith stronger than when you left. Good luck.

You are speaking of Apostasy, the verses that you are referring to are in the new testament when God is warning the new Christians that converted from Judaism about denying Christ and returning to their former beliefs. This is the hardest time in the life of a Christian, when are new to the faith, and new to the acceptance of Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. The Devil is not happy with your decision to accept Christ, and you will be fighting a spiritual battle. I know this sounds deep, and it is. The battle for your soul is a serious thing. I don't think there is anything wrong with being educated on other religions, for I believe there are many that have studied the Bible however they are not Christians, they are only scholars. The Lord God knows your heart, stay true to him. Pray about your fears and concerns and the Lord God will grant you peace and guidance.

There is nothing anti-Christian about researching other religions. It is good to be educated about other religions. In fact, if you are knowledgeable about your own religion, it should make your faith stronger.
By the way, everyone has doubts and everyone questions. Nobody can honestly tell you that they have always 100% known and understood Christ. We don't have solid evidence that he is the son of God. That's why it's called faith. We are in a constant battle with those that don't believe, so it is important that we keep the faith.

The scripture you are referring to can be found in 2 Peter 2:20-22:
20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.
What this refers to is the deliberate action of returning to a sinful life after having been delivered from sin. It is not referring to reading about other religions, it is by this that we become more knowledgeable about false doctrines and how to avoid them. But, if we do return to sin we can repent and return to God by asking and receiving forgiveness. God Bless!

"I also started off researching to find the way to God as unbiased as I could, I didnt want to blindly believe what I grew up with."
This displays your great maturity as well as understanding. Way to go.

The verse is Heb 6:6, but that cannot be the meaning of the verse. I have known many who have, and have myself fallen away, and come back. The context of the verse is advancing in doctrine without first laying the foundation. Those who do so are likened to thorns in verse 8.

simply research is fine, i'm a Christian and i've done research on other religions for many reasons. mostly for reports but also to help me know why i believe what i believe.
i'm so glad you made the choice for Christianity. i wish i had my verses written down in front of me but i can tell you that as long as you believe that Jesuse is the Son of God and that he died on the cross to forgive you of your sins, and you belive that it is by faith not works that you will go to heaven then you are really a Christian. i encourage you to talk to a pastor at your church. if you want, you can e-mail me and i'll get you the verses that explain it all better.
my e-mail is hannahpof09@yahoo.com
anyone with questions can e-mail me.
