The fact is, religion is merely a reflection of cuture, a divine justification of a society's actions. Hinduism is less popular because it is a polytheistic, and involves quite a large number of gods. It is still, however, the third largest religion in the world. Not that small. Similarly, buddhism in fact has no god. Buddha is seen, by most sects of Buddhism as nothing more than a mortal man who achieved enlightenment and so founded his offshoot of hinduism. Thus, no god, just an impersonal force (Brahman) is less appealing. Christianity's popularity comes directly from the grace of their god. Unconditional forgiveness is offered to all those who repent. Islam, yes, is controlling, and yet it retains the rank of the second largest religion in the world. The reason is that when someone follows a religion, they actually believe in the higher being, otherwise they could just implement the idealistic values and actions through secular means. Thus, islamic followers follow the quran, which they believe to have been divinely inspired. In their mind, the word of god must be followed. Also, by no means are Buddhism and Hinduism less controlling than Christianity or Islam. Buddhism requires the following of strict rules by which to live, whilst Hinduism, at least reactionary Hinduism stillk follows a caste system, in which your societal status is predetermined. Your statement that religious people are supposed to be peaceful , accepting and tolerant could not be further from the truth. They are held by no such idea. The only requirements of 'religious people' is that they follow their faith, regardless of the implications for the rest of society, or, in fact, humanity. They are right.

I watched a documentary about Christianity in China a few days ago. China is publishing the biggest amount of bible in the world. Even though, the Communists also suppress this religion (you know about Tibet I guess), it allows the Church that supports the communist party.

China?? Are you sure you don't mean Japan? Christmas is very popular in Japan because of commercialism. It's cool and American!! If it spread to China also, it's probably because it's so popular in Japan.
