Not at all.
Islam has always been a fighting religion.
In their own teachings they acknowledge their leader and prophet used military means to attack places.
Why is it different now?
It's only secular western citizens who knew very little of Islam (and other religions and spirituality beliefs) insist that all religions are the same, that they feel Bin Laden is doing something un-islamic.
Read your history, find out how Islam spread into Egypt, Turkey, etc. Get to know it and even if you only read anti-Christian books, you will still read how Islam spread using force in many (but not in all) cases.
At the same time as some were fighting, others were counselling for peace. Same with western countries today. As US and UK fight in Iraq and Afghanistan (though this is under the umbrella of UN and NATO), there are some calling for peaceful dialogue as well as others fighting.
But no-one is seriously saying this is destroying western secularism are they?

Any person citing religion as a means of justificiation for violence is in fact destroying the Image that the religion portrays, as Islam is a religion which advocates peace, the answer would be, Yes Bin Laden and his followers are destroying Islam's Image, but not the good ideas which Islam holds

Yes. But only for those who generalize.
I am part of Islam.
But, I am Ismaili... a religion that other Islamic people believe to be way to "modernized."
So, my religion has nothing to do with Bin Laden and his followers, but those who are ignorant and generalize believe that Ismaili's who are Islamic are part of all the horror going on.
However, not everyone is like that, so due to ignorance of the world - yes, Bin Laden and his followers are gradually destroying Islam.

No, I don't think that they are destroying Islam per se - but I think they have done so much damage to the "face of Islam" if you will that any person who isn't intimately familiar with its teachings will always think that all of its followers are terrorists.
I think that Bin Laden and his like have had help though in the destroying of Islam in the eyes of the rest of the world however - the media has pretty much done as much damage, if not more, than they have.

I'm not muslim.. but what i do understand about islam and the koran is that it does want to promote peace... every muslim has his own way of interpreting the koran ( some in a good way... and some in a bad way just for their benefit )... that is why bin laden says that he is doing everything in the name of allah and to protect islam... but really, it's only because he is a destructive person not because the koran teaches this....
so yes.. people like him ARE destroying the image and teachings of islam....

of course they are - the true message of islam is being distorted and covered with all the debris from every suicide bombing. Every Muslim needs to stand up and denounce Bin Laden, his supporters and their ideology. Muslims need a form of reformation in their thinking in order to move with the times and become compatible with the world today.

Bin Laden, and so many westerners ( I definately put them together) are destroying Islam. If westerners would prefer to be called his followers, i do not object.
