Biblically speaking, the Greek definition is:

ponēros
pon-ay-ros'
hurtful, that is, evil (properly in effect or influence, and thus differing from "kakos", which refers rather to essential character, as well as from "sapros", which indicates degeneracy from original virtue); figuratively calamitous; also (passively) ill, that is, diseased; but especially (morally) culpable, that is, derelict, vicious, facinorous; neuter (singular) mischief, malice, or (plural) guilt; masculine (singular) the devil, or (plural) sinners: - bad, evil, grievous, harm, lewd, malicious, wicked (-ness).

In my neck of the woods 'wicked' equates with the word 'awesome'.

If you are meaning "spiritual" wickedness, it means to suppress the truth in unrighteousness by preaching another gospel, denying God's very existence, being humanistic by proclaiming supremacy of man and making gods out of yourselves. It is ungodliness. The "effects" are murders, evildoers, deceivers, warlike rulers, rapists, thieves and cheats, vengeful people, who are incapable of being appeased.
