People continue to say 'oh it's just the extremists" without realising that extremist Islam has become the MAINSTREAM all over the world now. In part because people sat on their azzes and said "oh it's just the extremists doing those things, the fringe elements".
Particularly where 'political correctness' has brainwashed people into feeling like they cannot mention the 3000 pound gorilla standing right in front of them in the same room. Or even worse, that they cannot even see it.
It's not fringe, anymore. Hasn't been for a while now. Anyone who says that the fringe extremist Islamist elements are still fringe has either got their head up their rear or is intent on not facing the truth about it so they don't have to deal with it.
From "A German's View of Islam":

We are told again and again by "experts" and "talking heads" that Islam is the religion of peace, and that the vast majority of Muslims just want to live in peace. Although this unqualified assertion may be true, it is entirely irrelevant. It is meaningless fluff, meant to make us feel better, and meant to somehow diminish the spectra of fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of Islam.
******The fact is that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history.*******
It is the fanatics who march.
It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50 shooting wars worldwide.
It is the fanatics who systematically slaughter Christian or tribal groups throughout Africa and are gradually taking over the entire continent in an Islamic wave.
It is the fanatics who bomb, behead, murder, or honor kill.
It is the fanatics who take over mosque after mosque.
It is the fanatics who zealously spread the stoning and hanging of rape victims and homosexuals.
The hard quantifiable fact is that the "peaceful majority", the "silent majority", is cowed and extraneous.

No faith supports violence, but unless Islam starts to isolate the extremists within its ranks, who have the audacity to call themselves Muslims, then it is in danger of fragmenting.
I am afraid Islam is at the point in history that Christianity was during the reformation. It must reform itself, to remove the politics from the religion, and it will not be a painless process.
Until moderate Muslims start to expel these radicals from their mosques and from hijacking their religion, then uninformed non-Muslims will always be unable to distinguish the majority of peace loving Muslims from the few idiots.

I assume you are referring to 'peace' and I would say that it is as peaceful as any other world religion is. Islamics have commented many times against the extremists. They don't condone these actions any more than you or I do. The truth is this. Islam now has more members than the Christians. Christian Americans are terrified by this fact. Christians own a huge amount of TV stations and newspapers. They choose what is published/broadcast and how the story is spun. They have an agenda to spread irrational fear of Islam as far and as wide as they possibly can.

Most organized religion is in and of pieces, each one swearing to some unproven unwitnessed mythology that allows them to privilge themselves above others to keep theirs prevailing. They are a sad state. Healing should be our goal, functional healing, without which life cannot continue.
Healing be unto you and yours and me and mine
In Forgive Affirmed Spirit

lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol = bitter laugh because there appears to be veracity to this remark. Terrorism is not something to ever laugh about but frankly, after today's events, I think if we don't laugh a bit, we're all gonna be crying.
