What they say is "Cats have nine LIVES". People say this because felines are like acrobats and take several risky jumps and falls in their lifetimes. Have you ever seen a cat miss the fireplace mantle or top of the refrigerator for example? Cats are graceful creatures, but don't always get away with the risky tasks they take on.

For this reason people say "cats have nine lives".

Not lines, but lives. One year in a cats life equals nine human years, hence the expression.

Its " cats have nine LIVES not LINES" and it means that cats can have near death experiences and still live for example a cat can jump from a very high tree and still live on its feet

Nobody says that. They have nine LIVES.

It's just an old wives tale. It's based on the fact that cats always seem to bounce back from things, and often have lucky escapes. They don't really have 9 lives, they have one, like everyone.

People say that because it seems that cats get into so much trouble but almost always come out fine. One example is my cay fell off the balcony railing of our third story apartment and while we were running down to check on him he walked right up the back stairs and ten minutes later when we returned he was sitting there perfectly fine grooming himself. Lol. So you see, cats don't really have 9 lives but it can seem like they do.

I thought the saying was "cats have nine lives". And they need nine lives because cats are curious and "curiousity kills the cat".

Because cats seem to be lucky, like how they are meant to always fall on their feet - speaking of which, I read somewhere that a cat falling from seven storeys was more likely to land on their feet than one falling from less, though why on earth someone threw loads of cats from balconies in the name of science is slightly worrying to say the least!

Lives, it's lives not lines! They say 9 lives because cats seem to have a knack of escaping from dangerous situations.
