Hello, when my old cat (Who I had had for 22 years! Older than me!) He was getting really skinny from old age, what I did was I came on here and asked the same question. I got a great answer by "punk_raw." She gave me this recipe and he put on a fair amount of weight after eating only a little over half.

Theres the recipe. (I just copied and paste.) Be prepared though, its not a pretty process. But if you love them, you'll do it. Its super healthy too.

One thing that I used to give my ailing cat with kidney disease that he really loved and that helped get him eating when he wasn't feeling well was a stew I made of chicken hearts and livers. It's REALLY easy to make, super cheap, healthy and all three of my cats love it. And since you serve it a little warm it's very soothing to kitties.

- 1 container of chicken livers
- 1 container of chicken hearts (they don't always have these at every grocery store but ask the butcher - mine has them as this big chunk in the frozen section)

Put a little water in a medium sized pot and add the hearts and livers. Simmer till the red goes away and if you cut a piece through it's more a grayish colour. Pour the meat and liquid mixture into a blender - removing some of the liquid if you have a small blender (I didn't do this the first time and worse some of it once I started the blender - yuck!) Blend it till it's the consistency of a thick soup. Pour into two ice cube trays and freeze.

To serve, pop out a cube or two and add a little liquid. Microwave on "Defrost" till the cube melts. Check the temp of the soup with your finger. If it's too cold, microwave a few seconds longer. Too warm, add a little more cool water.

I hope that helps.
Let me know if it likes it?

Has your vet tested her for an overactive thyroid? My mom's cat was always skinny even though he could eat and eat and eat - when he was 15, we actually found out he had an overactive thryoid, meaning that he burnt calories very quickly and therefore found it difficult to put on weight.

If your cat is very skinny, try taking her to see a different vet in a different practice and get a second opinion. You could also try giving her a premium kitten food which generally has more calories than adult food.

if you got her from a cat home you wont know what breed she is ,my son has a cat thats nearly 2 years old shes a house cat but has dry food out all day to eat as she wants ,she is really thin to the point that if you saw her you would say shes starved , but far from it she eats like a pig and yes she is wormed regularly its just that the mother was a moggy but the father was a siamese.

To some extent, this is just genetic. But have you had her to the vet to be checked for worms or for thyroid dysfunction? I knew a woman once who had a very busy thyroid indeed. she would eat an entire cheesecake and still continue to lose weight. It's a possibility. Get her checked.
