4 years ago I weighed 155 lb. and wore size 13 paints, so I started a low calorie diet and joined a gym for exercise. I would only eat 1200 calories/day and I would do 5 min of cardio to warm up and followed with 30 min of weight light weight lifting then returned to cardio for 20 min. at that time, I lost 35 lbs. in 4 mos, but due to school, work, and money I had to quit going to the gym, but i kept up with the diet and got as low as 110 lbs. But even at 110 lb. I was in a size 5 in paints, but my legs (my problem area) still looked chunky(cellulite). was it because i didn't keep up with the exercise just diet. since then i have gotten fat and lazy. Im at 135 lbs. and into a size 9 paints, so last week I rejoined the gym and back on the low cal diet and I know I can loose weight that way cuz i have done it before, but this time I want to tighten up and not be so jiggly!! Now i do 10 min cardio and 40 min weight lifting. whats the best way to loose weight/tone w/o getting big muscles?

I currently do about 10 to 15 min on the epiliptic (sp?) machine for cardio and then I do light weight lifting on legs and arms to tone. I lift from 20 to 30 lbs. on the legs and 10 to 20 lbs. for my arms. I cant do more on the arms right now due to a problem with elbow. I do 3 sets of 15 for each of these areas and 5 sets of 20 sit ups. I don't want to build huge muscles, i just want to tone. So am I going about this right or do I need to do more cardio or more weight lifting to tone and loose weight? and which burns fat and which tones? what should i do to see the results I want?

Should I do more cardio before I weight lift or should i do cardio after weight lift, or does it matter. I will still continue to do at least 10 min before weight lifting to warm up, but should i do more before or after weight lifting?

You can lift weights as much as you want as long as you do low weight and high reps. The more the weight the more muscle mass you get.

It's not an either or thing. The whole point is you do both. Weight lifting will technically not actually help you lose weight. It will build muscle, which will use a lot of energy to maintain itself, making you lose fat. You will be a lot slimmer, but may weigh more (as muscle is denser than fat). Cardio is also very good for burning calories, which obviously helps with weight loss. I'd try alternating interval training days with steady speed days. Interval training is simple and easy. I've always had good results from sprinting roughly 50 m ( the distance between 3 lampposts where I live), then walking 50m, then sprinting 50m again etc, keeping this up for 2 km or so. Hope this helps

Keep mixing the weight lifting with the cardio. You won't get big muscles you'll get tone. Good luck.

10-15 minutes of cardio isn't going to cut it. You need to do probably 30 minutes of cardio at day if you want to lose weight.

Do you like running? Outdoor running is a great way to pass the time.

Swap a bowl of pasta to get a bowl of vegetables. You can conserve to 200 calories by slicing the starch and adding vegetables.

Be a kid all over again! When eating out, order a child’s sandwich, pizza or cheese burger. Then you can have the treats you love, while reducing your portions and lowering your calorie intake.
