I got a flat iron and i use it a lot. When i take a shower, and my hair dries, it is really dry, and brittle. It also looks like its breaking. I need a shampoo which can fix this. I want a shampoo you can buy at your local grocery store. Herbel Essences is my favorite.
BTW. This started happening a week or less after i started straightening my hair.

Suave has some awesome salon products that have all worked wonders on my hair! Just look at the ones that help repair hair in their SALON PRODUCTS, you'll love it. Here is a really wonderful hair repair trick that will have your dry hair under control really fast. Warm an 1/8 cup of olive oil in the microwave, just warm in do not make it too hot, then dampen a towel with warm water. Massage the olive oil in your hair and wrap in the warm towel. Leave 30 minutes. Towel dry off your hair. Then in the morning wash as usual. Do this once a week and it'll look amazing very quickly. You should get a good trim to keep your hair from splitting. These things will repair your hair and make it good as new!

When you flat iron, use a heat protection spray. Nexxus is great, but Suave has one that is cheaper that you can get at WAL*MART. Mist this on each section of hair before you go to straighten it. That, in combination with the Sunsilk shampoo will do the trick.
PS if it is REALLY bad get a VO-5 hot oil treatment too.

There is no fix for damaged hair. The best thing you can do to help your hair is condition it and get regular trims. This will help as your hair grows and the trims will help get rid of those damaged ends. Keep the heat off until your hair is healthy. After that use minimum amounts of heat. Blowdry on a low setting(if possible on the cool setting) and flat iron on a low setting. And use a heat protectant.

get a gel masque for your hair you can get one @ a salon that is by Loreal or @ the store by Fructis
you put it on once a week , a small amount & use it like a conditioner
it works great , it dyed my hair , had it highlighted
& lightened the next day by a professional since I dyed it too dark & this is what the salon told me to use , my hair looks healthy & soft
GOOD LUCK

i use a spray that protects my hair before flat ironing or even blow drying it. in the future you should use it. there are plenty of shampoos in the "hair products" aisle in the grocery store. this same predicament happened for me merely one month before and i used sun-silk shampoo and conditioner.

i think there is a brand of herbal essences that can fix that, and also do you use products before you flat iron your hair? i would suggest biosilk it protects your hair from the heat.
